Do we need to be worried about Shelley Smith?

I will worry about it when I see it in preseason

Which means when it's preseason people will be saying "I'll worry when I see it in meaningful games". Not that OTAs are really the sort of thing to judge OL at all.

It might just be me, however I don't really want an offensive lineman who excels in non-contact blocking.

C'mon Southbeach! Get real. Lamar Miller is a huge liability in pass pro. So bad, that he was taken off the field in favor of Danial Thomas who couldn't start for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Ask anyone in the know and the word is Moreno is great in pass pro. Game on the line who do you want back there? Say Miller and lose cred. Simple as that.

Yeah SB, don't let facts get in the way in discussions. Jus because Miller was better statistically last year than Moreno in pass pro, shouldn't be allowed in the conversation. All FAs brought in by anyone not named Ireland, is GOING to be a world beater until he takes the field. Get it straight, duh.

One big factor is that this is a very different offense from Shermans'. Lazor's thing is to get the ball out really fast. Peyton Manning got the ball out last year an average of 2.8 seconds. He had Moreno blocking for him and that kept the sacks down. Tannehill now has an offense that gets the ball out much faster and like Peyton last season, he has Moreno blocking. He won't be back there patting the ball waiting to get hammered. If the o-line doesn't have to sustain blocks as long it becomes easier to protect the QB. To me a lot of the sacks last season were on Sherman's offense and Ireland's lousy picks for the o-line. Both are gone and I suspect the problem with the sacks will be gone also. I always noticed that when Tannehill drops back and gets rid of the ball in rhythm he is deadly. Rich Gannon said something to that effect last season. Roll outs, throwing in rhythm and giving him a back like Moreno will make Tannehill a much better QB. Lazor and Hickey make a big difference imo. I feel better about our offense than I have in years. I also predict that Jarvis Landry will be great. Watch some tape of this kid! He catches everything and runs polished routes. He is a great football player. He'll be a fan favorite for years!

Not to nitpick, but please use paragraph breaks. It's easier on the reader.

As for holding the ball and Peyton Manning, you are right. But one guy who routinely holds the ball too long is Aaron Rodgers.

IMHO, Tannehill is physically more like Rodgers and plays in a system more like the one Rodgers plays in and behind an OL that more resembles the one Rodgers plays behind.

So, if I were to ask Tannehill to model his game after any QB, Manning would be a great choice, but I think Rodgers would be an even better model for Tannehill. Just my $0.02

Sent from my phone, so please forgive any typos.

I do not get it either. You've been saying this stat since before we signed him! It's evident but somehow Moreno is seen as some huge upgrade. I do not comprehend

Yeah, getting tired of posting it. Maybe some got locked into Miller's first 2 games last year, when he pass blocked only 12 times but, gave up a sck, a hit and a hurry which was very bad. For the other 14 games and 120 tries, he gave up a sack and 3 hurries, whic was very good.

BSQ, the numbers for a QB getting sacks and hits ar fact and hurries are verry close. It's not an opinion, and cannot be agrued. What ele do you add in for a RB in pass blocking, style poins for looking better in giving up the pressure? If ya like, you could add in Moreno getting a plus for one screen block, and Miller getting a minus for missing a screen block but, that's about it.

Don't know about "anyone in the know" opinion as you failed to mention them. I could see those in the National media saying that Moreno was good, as Denver was a very high profile team and they likely saw him in every game. However, cannot see them saying he is a big upgrade over Miller, who they likely saw very little of.

For the record, DT pass blocked 92 times giving up 3 sacks, 0 hits, and 6 hurries bit 1- 0- 3 were in one game. For the rest of the year, he was about the same as Moreno as well.

If giving facts makes me lose credibility in your mind, So Be it.

Just curious....how do they determine what is classified as a hurry?

The overall consensus is that we do not need to be worried. It's only otas. We can only praise not critique performance or potential until the real games start.

By definition it is when a defender causes a QB to make a decision and/or throw before he wants to and id hurried. Sometimes, this result in a bad throw and a pick. It is subjective to a degree as to what someone sees, as opposed to a sack and hit being fact.

The determining factor is some guys opinion, and we dont know who that guy is or what his qualification are, or if his opinions or methods are being applied consistently across all players on every play.

True but, I believe most can look at a play and see if the QB appeared to make a decision or throw earlier than he would have liked to. For example, I may see the reason as a defender breaking free from a block and the QB feeling pressure. Someone else may see that the clock went off in a QB's head or, that he saw a receiver break free and rused the throw while he was open.

I think most would agree around 80% of the time.
