does the QB controversy start again

Controversy? What controversy? ALL of our QB's suck, end of story. There is no controversy. Flip a coin, play "paper / rock / scissors," or have them pull straws to decide who starts, it won't make a bit of difference in the end.

come on now......neither has earned it......you dont earn the starting QB job by struggling against Jax (both did), and then completing 16 passes for less than 100 yards. I would've said that about Gus too. Neither has stepped up, and neither deserves to be named the starter for Sept. 11th.....

Granted. I would give it to him just for being the winning QB last year against the Pats. Is that a ridiculous reason to get the starting job. You bet! But hell, I got nothing else to go with so what the hell

I think Saban might have to think about naming AJ the starter and not just for next week but for week 1 of the season. I think AJ earned it, he's outplayed Gus this preseason and he showed promise last year plus Gus is ancient with zero upside. If we're going to lose I'd rather do it with AJ and who knows the guy shows heart. He could've crumbled tonight and instead played well. Maybe he needs the world against him (last vs the Patriots) to play well. Give him the ball and see what he can do with it. What's the worst that could happen. We draft Leinart?

Catch 22, Saban starts AJ and he flops then we have revolving qbs again. If he goes with AJ this week, he wont be naming him for week 1, it just means we will have to wait again. But Gus hasnt looked stellar, like someone who is taking his last shot to be a starter and running with it. His well reported weknesses are creeping back in, namely inaccuracy.

AJ played welltonite but it is one game, there is no way Saban just names AJ for teh regular season at this point.

True I agree.

When you have 2 players that are equal you have to go with the guy who has potential.

Frerotte is maxed out. Feeley has potential to get better and be solid for another 5-6 years. That doesn't mean he will.

That just means that Frerotte is not the future. Feeley doesn't look like it either but he is still relatively young and could be the future for a few years.

If both QB'S are playing equal why wouldn't u go with potential. Frerotte's experience, confidence, knowledge of Linehans system has obviously not served him well.

Yeah except you left out a key point in that argument, he was under pressure when he dropped back and didnt have time to go deep. Had he just thrown it up and he got picked, what would you say then? He did make a huge mistake not realizing the time left on the clock and should have spiked teh ball.

It was 4th down, so he couldn't spike it.

I agree I don't want flipflopping.

But both are playing the same so u gotta go with Feeley. Sign it and end it now.

The only other option is to bring Couch in. Give him one game to show what he has.

Other then that u have to go with Feeley.

Yeah, true forgot that. he needed to know that then and get in position to throw. Or he needed to save a timeout and ran a play. you just cant be caught in that situation like that.

This I agree with you.

Niether has truly shown to be obviously better.

Which is why you have to stick with Feeley IMO

I don't think we need a better QB. I think either one will be fine.

We just need to fix our dang protection and O-line issues
I disagree totally. Considering the caliber of defenses we have faced in the pre-season I think our O-line has shown improvements and reason for optomism. When you play a great D like the Steelers you are going to have pressure on the QB, and a tough time running the ball, thats the way it is. Gus's fumble in the red zone was inexcusable. If he is about to get ambushed like he was he needs to eat the ball and kick the fieldgoal, not try and get rid of it like he did. That only results in INT's and fumbles. I just really hope this job isn't given to Gus just because he is the vet and they want to resolve the issue. Feeley hasn't done much to step up but Frerotte has plain and simpe looked bad. Maybe they bring in someone like a Tim Couch and he steps up, or maybe one of these two gets it together and steps up, but as of right now we don't have a starting QB IMO.

Even if you sign Couch, there is NO WAY he is ready to start at this point. If AJ plays with the poise he played with tonite, then I would go with AJ. But who knows what Saban will do.

I can't argue with you there

well, you're not going to see AJ being namedthe starter for the season now, not yet. It'll be one more game at least. He still has not gotten the team in scoring range, and has not performed well enough to be just handed something.

Saban's plan of playing the starters longer in the third game just went down the crapper after tonight I think.

I think the point you made about Frerotte's accuracy is the key. Frerotte is not an accurate passer and THAT is the most important attribute a QB must have - above arm strength, above pocket presence, above knowledge of the offense, above "feel", above smarts. Frerotte has been a backup because he goes through periods where he couldntn hit a receiver if his life depended on it. Thats why he's a career backup. When Frerotte is on he looks alright but he always goes through his waywardness. Frerotte has yet to have one good preseason game. He's had problems with overthrowing and underthrowing every single game. Go with Feeley. I think this past week might just be the thing that gets him focused

I think this is why so many people are getting sick of these debates. Had Frerotte completed the 16 for less than 100, the Feeley supporters would have said the same things a few of us have.

Neither deserves to be just handed anything, even after tonight. I just have no f'n clu what Saban does now.
