Come on man, dont use a scenario that we'd never fall into as your example. If we clean house completely, we will be setting the franchise back another 3 years and will be worse because of it.

He may want to replace them but might not find a better alternative (because, if we are being honest, neither is BAD at their job, but both have definitely been the definition of mediocre at it). Maybe he feels that the available candidates aren't just mediocre, but outright bad - then do you can the guy just for the sake of change? No, you don't. That may be what is going on here.

The only thing I am sure of is Sherman is going to be gone. Everything else is a toss up.

No doubt none of us think Ross should replace anyone just for the sake of replacing them. I just find it difficult to believe Ross can't find a better GM.
 
One of the biggest reasons I have said everyone should get one more year is because of Tannehill.

Another is Ross is not prepared to deal with this when ten other teams are changing and getting coaches ect. Two weeks ago the notion never crossed his mind. Its difficult finding someone who fits with what the coach wants and Ross hired Philbin. I didnt say this to defend Ireland. I said this in a common sensical way. Its too easy to poo poo everything when you dont have the responsibility to make something happen. Reality is something quite different. The entire notion is based around our QB. Tannehill. It takes most QB's three years to come alive. You cannot switch up in midstream with your QB. They will have to change the manner in which they run their offense and the D is going to have to start looking to the youngins to change the way we attack.

Now at least Ross's attention is on the future. Two weeks ago he was not thinking misery. Everyone is on notice and the 3rd year is important. I think he could easily get rid of Ireland and replace him with Gaine. But what is the difference there? Only change in name. Philbin still has to make it happen. There will be no excuses next year. They will all be gone. and maybe we can all hope Sherman retires and saves everyone from having to deal with it.

Just not seeing Philbin fired. Can see Ireland but then its tricky. I would think Philbin would just rather go with Ireland and let the chips fall where they may. What GM is out there that these guys could feel comfortable with?

Not even sure if Ross would even pose that question to Philbin.

Fine. Keep Joe.. At a bare minimum Sherman needs to go, and thats the bare minimum. At the normal minimum Sherman and Ireland need to go.

The last two games have been a 2nd year coaches dream. The shot to win 2 games, controlling your own destiny, to make the playoffs. Philbin needs to take the sole responsibility for this. We didn't lose to the Niners, Denver, or Seattle. We lost to the Bills and Jets, wth?

Joe had his moment, 2 of them, to prove he knows what he's doing. He failed. He failed the team and the fans.

I wonder if the firing of Sherman is a tipping point with Phibin, and he's trying to put his foot down. All speculation on my part.
 
The only thing that can turn the table here on everyone is Martin/incog investigation.

I get what you're saying but every year there are 5 to 8 teams looking for new management. Just gotta do the homework and be better than anyone else. Hopefully this time around Ross is getting better advice

That is all conjecture on your part. 2 of the AFC playoff teams cleaned out their old failed staffs last season (SD and KC). Why are you so convinced that would be impossible for us?

I very much agree with this. If I were Ross I think I would wait until the results of that investigation are revealed. It's possible that it could impact his decision on whether to blow up the entire thing or whether to keep some of the pieces intact.

I also think that he's going to seek some advice from his advisory council and I suspect it will take some time. The report findings are very likely relevant to what those discussions as well.

I do think major changes are coming, but that he's doing his due diligence before making a decision. That report is still a big question mark and I think it will factor into all of this somehow.

Edit to add that perhaps Ross learned from the Harbaugh incident and that he's making sure he deals with ALL o/s concerns for this team (i.e. the investigation) before rushing into a situation and trying to attract new staff who have to deal with that situation still lingering over the team. I think any potential coach would want to know exactly what they are getting into and/or what their expectations are before coming aboard and the results of that investigation could certainly play into that.

I think Ross is old. I think he does not have the time or energy for a GM hunt. At least he had JI to guide him on the HC spot that was tedious with Fisher and all. I just feel that Ross doesn't want to take the time to do this. He just wants to keep things the same without too much hassle.
