Dolphin Team Report

Yes the contract stands folks. If the contract didn't stand he'd be free to go whereever he wants. The contract stands and the $8.6 million that is owed would probably be dropped by the team.

I think you are wrong. When a player retires the team he retires from retains his rights for 3 years regardless of contractual status. The contract could be considered broken, and they would still retain his rights.

rickey wants MORE money not less... he felt he was getting ripped off, thats one of the reasons he quit... theres no way he plays for anything near the min

If Ricky wanted more money he would have held out, not retired. He retired because he got caught in a drug test. Every subsequent reason was bipolar induced thinking.

Be interesting to find that info in the CBA. Every media report I've seen about it has gone on about the salary cap ramification of it. I'll put a mail out to Jason Cole and see what info he can provide about it.

RW`s contract is still valid. Although he has breeched it. If he decides tomorrow to return to the Dolphins his original cap figure for the 2005 season would/will be in-effect.

We would need to clear that cap room.

The same situation would apply to Oakland if Rob Konrad decides to "un-retire".

Oakland would need to clear the cap room again.

Its crazy...but its true.

The information you are looking for is in the standard contract. If a player joins the armed forces, retires or does not report his contract is tolled. That means suspended. When he comes back the contract is resumed.

APPENDIX C

NFL PLAYER CONTRACT

16. EXTENSION. Unless this contract specifically provides otherwise, if Player becomes a member of the Armed Forces of the United States or any other country, or retires from professional football as an active player, or otherwise fails or refuses to perform his services under this contract, then this contract will be tolled between the date of Player's induction into the Armed Forces, or his retirement, or his failure or refusal to perform, and the later date of his return to professional football. During the period this contract is tolled, Player will not be entitled to any compensation or benefits. On Player's return to professional football, the term of this contract will be extended for a period of time equal to the number of seasons (to the nearest multiple of one) remaining at the time the contract was tolled. The right of renewal, if any, contained in this contract will remain in effect until the end of any such extended term.

K I thought it was. I wonder what happens to that $8.6 million payment. I'm guessing it'll turn into a partial one for the year missed or something. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. There's got to be a tough enough penality for the year he bailed.

For my opinion:

Basically nothing is forgiven until the contract is completed or compensation is received for a trade. But as I said last year who would give more than a 5th or 6th round pick???

Taylor still has ideal size for this defense, as long as he doesn't mind being moved to OLB. If he cares about winning, then he won't mind. He could be a great OLB.

Safety does worry me. I still think Marion and Knight was a good tandem. Also Knight and Freeman was good. How did we get this bad at that position? :shakeno:

My guess is Ricky would take a large paycut for the next three seasons but would the 8.2 million charge would be dropped.

I didn't know Tillman and T Bucky jones were our safety's. I thought they'd convert one of our corners. Either way whoever couldn't be as bad as Arturo Freeman though I thought Sammy Knight was average. Yaremia Bell is also a Safety.

I have a feeleing that one of them might be (Jones), but the other will have to work his butt off to actually considered. I think Saban is nowhere close to being done, somewhere in the future, a team is going to let a safety Saban likes go, and Saban will be there to pick him up.

what was wrong with freeman???? all he did was intercept the ball whenever he was in............
Let's see...Freeman has played in 72 games in his NFL career and has 5 interceptions. That doesn't exactly add up to intercepting the ball whenever he was in...

i thought the aritcle was dead on. Dt and FS are two pressing needs for us, but I'm hoping saban brought in holliday and carter to be versatile and share some time at the DT position if needed, and daniels to be versatile and see some time at safety. Also, third WR, center, and possibly LT are huge needs too. Hopefully carey fills in one of those holes on the line.

I'm pretty sure ricky would be payed the same if he came back. I'm not sure how the 8.6 million would work though.

Yeah, but that 8.2M we drop would basically be like a signing bonus AGAIN, and would probably be hit with some cap charges for it. Not the whole thing, but I assume some or most of his signing bonus with the Dolphins hasn't been counted on the cap because of the retirement. That money has been payed to the player. So if that player comes back, I would guess the remander of that signing bonus would have to be charged to the cap.
