Dolphins are finalizing a deal with former Jets S Ashtyn Davis.

Man...

...look, I wanted Grier gone after last season, but let's be serious.

Blaming him for anything that happened over ten years ago is like blaming my sister for the Kennedy assassination. She was two, but she was alive and in the Northern Hemisphere, so maybe.

Anyone who wants a reasonable take on things knows that he's been in charge of the drafts since 2019. There's plenty of stuff to blame Grier for. Hyperbole isn't necessary.
It isn't hyperbole. The buck stops with Grier. This isn't manger at a local taco bell. 32 teams in the world, GMs in the NFL are like CEOs at Apple or Microsoft. Bottom line for those guys is you make money or you don't. Your in charge. Grier is in charge, he hired the scouting staff, he hired the coaches and so on. Winning is currency in the NFL, so ya he failed.

Then what does Garfinkel do?

It’s hyperbole when you hold him accountable for things that weren’t his responsibility.

It isn't hyperbole as I never held him accountable for things prior to becoming a GM. I was making a point to the guy that was saying all others are unknown. When yes as far GMs but thay have track records in other jobs that are good. Griers track record before GM was crap. He was mentored by a punch of guys who got fired and never won. The fact is Grier has never accomplished **** in the NFL.

That is a nice stat. More importantly though, how many TDs did he give up as to how many Holland gave up during that same time?
If you look at the last 3 seasons he improved greatly in coverage. He’s allowed about 10 yards per target, 6 yards per completion, 1 TD, 6 ints, a completion percentage near 60%, and a QB rating against near 50. So I don’t know what you guys are talking about when you say he is a liability in coverage. His first two years he was terrible. Have you ever heard of player development?

We better hope not. I'd feel much better if he never even saw the field and maybe even retired before the season. I don't know of a DB who allows a higher catch % than this guy. 70% is ****ing insane.
Take away his first two seasons and look at his last three seasons. He’s been great in coverage. It is just like Dolphins fans to skew the numbers to make a good thing look bad.

I looked. I also noticed the snap totals.

It's easier as a backup. Less footage and snaps for other teams to key in and pick on. They're safely off the radar.

He has gotten better. There is hope. But that doesn't mean I'd be comfortable with him getting starter snaps.

I didn't see improved play from Holland his last 2 years. Missed tackles, a lack of effort, being late in coverage. last year he looked disinterested in tackling anybody. He got way too much money for the production and impact he had in years 3 and 4.

I like both safety signings, and not just because they are cheap.

Both are young, aggressive safeties... and yes, they are VERY cheap, which is exactly why you don't draft a safety early in the draft. Guys like this are almost always available.
They’re both big safeties too. 6-1 and 6-3. I like that. I still like Colbert and McMorris. Overall it looks like we have some good options. But I wouldn’t be against looking for an upgrade in the draft. DTs seem to be a premium position. I was thinking a guy like Roy Lopez might be a bargain signing and he got big bucks. The draft would be a good way to upgrade there and that is what we should prioritize.

I’m talking about Davis. He’s been really good looking at the numbers.

Nice signing. Between him and the former Lions Safety we have already upgraded from Holland Poyer last year. We should still look to draft another Safety. I would target Mukuba in round 3.

Go look at Brandon Jones’ first two seasons in coverage and look at his improvement before Denver gave him starter snaps. It’s almost an identical situation except Davis is better than Jones in his limited snaps than Jones was in his limited snaps.
