while I agree that a RT is harder to find, keep on mind we might lose James after this year

There could still be draft day action between these two teams.

I wish the team didn't keep me in constant fear of any trade they make. This would have been beyond idiotic. I wasn't even in favor of resigning James either

I’m just happy to have a future 1st ballot Hall of Famer backing up Drake.

Most underrated move of the offseason, IMO.

Stupid if a straight up swap. But it seems reasonable to think the Fins would get a pick in addition.

Seems like OT might be a need this draft.

Thank goodness, would be a dumb *** move in a RB loaded draft. Just one in round 4 and develop him behind Gore for one year.

Good move not too. CJ lost his job to Booker. 2nd string RB for a starting RT... Finally we make the right decision

That's ok..we could get a comp pick or trade him mid season.

Rather have Gore + James then just C.J Anderson

its stupid to say its stupid without knowing the deal. CJ and a second? CJ and what else would we get? James is horrible and inconsistent anyway.

this didn't shock me one bit, it shocks me more that we didn't make the trade then that we thought about it. I figured James to Denver was gonna be a done deal by all the rumors that had went on for awhile, and would be lying if I said I still don't expect to see him traded on draft day depending on how the board falls out. with gase I could've still seen him wanting his boy Larsen to start at RG, and kicking Davis out to RT, this would've freed up $9 million cap space on the season I think, I could be wrong, I think JJ is getting ( this season) But we wanted CJ last year, so I think Gase would've been happy taking a pic a round lower and acquiring CJ too in the trade. Maybe someone in the brain trust actually realized that CJ will prob get cut post draft anyways to clear his salary. But I think that the entire James for Anderson trade was just Anderson being a throw in along with a draft pick. Maybe James said he wouldn't agree to a deal with the Broncos and that was the kicker in why the trade fell thru. I still would like to see us sign James to multi year deal with a lower cap hit.

I expect James to have a good year. He's been playing next to Bushrod, when Bushrod had little left. Let's see how he fares with better players and coaches around him, I expect an uptick in his game. He's at least, an average RT, not close to his draft slotting at #1 but not a weakness.

We had to have gotten a pick along with CJ. No way that’s an even trade. I would have lost my mind.

I thought I read that James is no good at run-blocking. If true, I'd trade him in a heartbeat for anything I could get... but not Anderson. Decent RBs should be cheap and easily available.

Why don’t we just trade our entire roster for Denver’s and get it over with.

Elway is just trying to save face after he was left holding the bag on Anderson again.

Yeah...the FA RB market was (and still is) a lot deeper than the FA RT market. That would have created a bigger hole than we had, IMO.

Sounds like Gase was getting back at Elway but telling them they had a deal and then backing out at the last second hahaha. That would be classic.

If you are going to move James get a draft pick for him, that straight up swap would have been nonsense and for a RB of all things. The Broncos will probably end up cutting him anyway.

Apparently all they need is a QB and they’re back in the playoffs.

I'm glad we didn't make the trade. Several RB's I like in this draft that we can get on day 2 or even day 3.
As far as getting a comp pick if James leaves as a free agent, don't hold your breath. Big chance we don't get anything for him as we're going to have some cap room and I'm sure we'll bring in more free agents than we lose. Trading him during the season is possible depending on how things are going for the team at that point.

The fact that we would seriously consider a swap of this nature, shows how infatuated Gase is with the players (and coaches) that he has worked with in the past. Whether it's Jermon Bushrod or Julius Thomas or Jay Cutler or David Fales or Ted Larsen or Senorise Perry, etc and in coaching with Dowell Loggains or Jeremiah Washburn or Eric Studesville or Shane Day or Bo Hardegree or Joe Vitt, father-in-law, as his defensive consultant, etc.... , his immediate reaction appears to be - "I know him, therefore we gotta get him" and very few of them have worked out well for the team. CJ Anderson may still be decent but he's on over $4.5m a season but Ja'Wuan James is an emerging O-lineman (provided he is healthy). Much easier to find a decent backup RB than an O-lineman. By recruiting Frank Gore we now have a very good experienced veteran RB to backup Drake, who is better in protecting the QB than CJ and much lower cost (and he still ran for over 1000 yards last year behind a crappy Colts O-line).
    Common sense prevails!

Thank god someone shot this down. I'd rather have Gore than CJ relative to the cost. The cost of paying CJ AND getting rid of our starting RT

Because even MT (I would hope) wouldn't trade a staring RT for a running back.
