I'll buy that! The issue is that Tua is playing scared and conservative mixed with an instinct to want to go downfield. His reads are there but he's not pulling the trigger on cheap yards. It may have to do with how Saban drills into QB's minds about ball security and not turning over the ball. But he's got to let it rip.
And I think the other thing is he's pressing for the big play, contrary to everyone thinking he isn't. He's used to downfield vertical passing. That's in his DNA. He WANTS to be aggressive and push the ball downfield. But he's gotta realize he's got Perry, Gesicki, etc open on the shorter routes when the deep shot isn't there.
He need's to start pushing for completions to get into a rhythm. 4-8 yard completions are his cheat passes that will get him in the flow to get downfield more. You saw it in the first drive. He pushed it downfield twice to Grant. Push it downfield, next time get cheap yards, get the first down then push it again downfield. He's gotta get in that mindset.
Not sure it's 100% correct. But at least a B+
I'll look forward to some video analysis supporting your take.
