Dolphins blew it with passing on Herbert

The issue is that Tua is playing scared and conservative mixed with an instinct to want to go downfield. His reads are there but he's not pulling the trigger on cheap yards. It may have to do with how Saban drills into QB's minds about ball security and not turning over the ball. But he's got to let it rip.

And I think the other thing is he's pressing for the big play, contrary to everyone thinking he isn't. He's used to downfield vertical passing. That's in his DNA. He WANTS to be aggressive and push the ball downfield. But he's gotta realize he's got Perry, Gesicki, etc open on the shorter routes when the deep shot isn't there.

He need's to start pushing for completions to get into a rhythm. 4-8 yard completions are his cheat passes that will get him in the flow to get downfield more. You saw it in the first drive. He pushed it downfield twice to Grant. Push it downfield, next time get cheap yards, get the first down then push it again downfield. He's gotta get in that mindset.
I'll buy that!

Not sure it's 100% correct. But at least a B+

I'll look forward to some video analysis supporting your take.

The losses that Herbert has isn’t on him. That team isn’t coached well. Flo is a much better coach than Lynn. However, Tua hasn’t lit it up; I hope he does but the fact is he hasn’t. Herbert is lighting it up, honestly he reminds me of a young Marino. At this time, we got the pick wrong.

I hate those loses.

Have you even watched Herbert's games? yes, some of those losses go on him. Just like when his team was up 3 touchdowns and he throws 2 boneheaded picks to get the other team back in it. Or when they need a FG and he throws the ball behind Mike Williams on 4th down after throwing multiple passes way off target right before.

I feel like most people look at his box scores and think he's the second coming and don't actually watch his games.

True but Rivers didn't put up the kind of numbers Herbert has when he was with the Chargers the last few years with the same weapons and having Gordon at RB as well. Also there is no way Tyrod Taylor would be putting up these kinds of numbers if he was the starter this whole time instead of Herbert. In fact the Chargers offense looked like crap in Week 1 at the Bengals when Taylor played compared to how they have looked since then with Herbert playing. Those are just the facts.
That's a fair point. We'll have to see how things progress, but Herbert is off to a nice start.

Surprising how good he has been early on. I remember pre-draft discussion about the Oregon system not showcasing his talent.

I preferred Herbert (I like big QB's), however, there were HUGE questions about him coming out of school. I saw him as BOOM or BUST, no middle ground. I can understand why they went with Tua.

This is not a sprint, its a marathon, I want to see TUA after a full year of conditioning and training (not rehabbing) before I make any hard judgments.

Herbert. Tua
QBR 72. 61.1
AVG 7.7. 6.2
YPG 299. 150
TDPG 2.4. 1.5
INTPG 0.66. 0

Herbert also has 3 rushing TDs vs 0 for Tua. Tua’s longest pass is 35 yards, Herbert’s is 72. In Herberts first 2 games he passed for more yards than Tua has in 4 games. In 9 games, Herbert has thrown for more than 300 yards in 5 of those. Herbert also has 5 games with 3 or more TD passes.

Herbert is clearly the best QB in this draft. Burrow might have been but he’s career ended when he was drafted by Cinci.

sorry RH but being a fanboy isn’t cool. It’s how you remind a loser. We have an outstanding coach. Flo is the best coach we have had since Shula. Tua isn’t the answer unfortunately.

Stats ain't everything but if you want to do the stats thing lets compare them after year 2.

You already determined Tua is not the answer after 4 games? This fan base embarrasses me sometimes. We don’t deserve nice things.

Herbert is the type of QB that I prefer as well... that said, neither guy has proved anything yet.

Though, I will grant that Herbert looks like a guy who will be a gunslinger in this league for a long time. I would have rather we'd taken him... but I haven't closed the book on Tua yet. In the long run, he may touch pass and game manage his way into my heart, but in order to do that... he has to win, and currently, we are winning despite him, rather than because of him.

Kid did play BIG in AZ.

But 1 out of 4 ain't no great avg.
