Dolphins coaches asked Incognito to toughen up Martin, sources say

Lol. Watch Dalton claim ginger defamation..

Many parents dream their kid can play in the league...the Martins dreamed their kid could play AND get a lawsuit out of it.

if i was daltons teammate and had to look at his tape every monday in the meeting room i'd text him myself and tell him he sucks

lmao, i dont know if this is true or not but 1 thing if for sure, incog n martin are firing from both sides n the dolphins caught smack dab in the middle n the ones who will take the fall for this are the dolphins.

While not a literal translation, that's equivalent to felony murder.

Philbin and staff will be judged as if they did the bullying themselves. This is beyond offensive. Beyond idiotic. Beyond comprehension.

Time for every single coach, FO and staff member between the players and the owner to be shown the door.

The amount of damage control needed in this moment is nothing short of every resource at Ross' disposal.

The NFL will make an example of this team.

It is a sad day in Dolphinland.

Ultimately this falls on Ireland not understanding the dynamics of his locker room. There is such a thing as "locker room fit". He was building a team with a lug like Incognito, and very few strong vets around, and brings in a guy for the line who even his own high school coach characterized as "soft". Somehow he thought this would be a good fit for a team with a bunch of cornfed meatheads?

It really shows that Ireland didn't have a vision for this team. He was all over the place.

Your agenda makes you talk all over the place. What are you talking about?

These "sources" are coming from Richie's camp, IMO.

Very possible. He absolutely is going to prepare a grievance against the team. For his sake I hope his lawyer has his lines written for him by Aaron Sorkin.

Part of what's interesting here is the multitude of conflicts of interest presented by the various parties. The NFLPA has to simultaneously represent Incognito and Martin in potential claims against each other, and both of them in potential claims against the team. Meanwhile the NFL's investigative team has an incentive to bury this thing somewhere deep inside Mt. Rainier, if possible, if not at the bottom of the ocean. It's basically the world's saddest ever game of Jenga.

Interesting that according to the article, Joe Philbin also tried to curb some of the hazing that was going on.

The truth might come out eventually, but right now all parties involved are just ducking for cover it seems.

Not at all.

It's really quite lame. The patterns this guy draws with some of the information that comes out is laughingly biased.

1. This is an Omar Story...be careful
2. IF it is true, I do not think it is that bad. They were asking for a vet to help improve a player.
3. STILL, at the end of the day, Joe Philbin does not survive this. Too much of a political **** storm.

I couldn't disagree more. It was Cog's place to do so. Cog simply misread his relationship with Martin or is a flaming racist who hated Martin. Either way Cog went too far, and Martin was too soft to look to try and resolve the situation in a mature way. Both handled this poorly. But make no mistake about it, the locker room is the property of the players not the coach.

We'll agree to disagree on this point then because I believe it is a players responsibility to do his job on the field and make plays. That's it.

As a head coach, Philbin needs to know everything that goes on or else he risks losing control like this. Hence why this is a mess to begin with. He needs to constantly have his hand on the pulse of what is going on in that locker room even if the players have a 'leadership' council. A coaches authority needs to be absolute and not end at an invisible door that leads to the locker room. He needs to set the guidelines of what is acceptable behavior on this team and the players need to follow that, period. Locker room be damned.

Cog can maybe scream and yell on the field as a 'leadership council' member like Dan used to do to his WRs to get his butt in gear, but personal issues outside of the football field work they are being asked to perform aren't anyone's business. If Martin was deemed mentally 'weak', then the coaches needed to either step in and get him right or they find another player that fit their mold for the players they like better, not this 'send a player to do my job' bit.

Unless your telling me that Martin himself asked Cog to 'toughen' him up, then it isn't Cogs 'place' to do a damn thing about another employee that works for the Dolphins because Cog isn't Martins boss, Philbin is.

This is what I've thought all along but didn't want to be perceived as ignorant or insensitive. I don't know Richie Incognito personally and do believe he's a little nuts but the media acting like what he said in those phone messages were actual threats (meaning things he may actually do) are out of their minds in my opinion. Martin can not be stupid enough to believe Cogs was going to "kill him" or "slap his Mother" or "**** in his mouth". Those are disgusting things to say to another human being and I certainly would never say them to anyone and it's definitely crossing the line but I don't believe anything was ever going to come of it and it was just Richie's approach to toughen Martin up, a very bad approach at that. Also, I do not know if Cogs is a racist or not but using that TMZ video to say that he is, ridiculous. He obviously has that kind of relationship with Pouncey considering Mike was laughing the whole time and the video concluded with the 2 hugging. Furthermore Mike Pouncey doesn't seem like the type of guy who would take **** from anyone. If Cogs offended him I do not think he just takes it.

I condone none of Incognito's actions and do believe he couldn't have used poorer judgment in this case but for whatever reason I think he thought he could get away with talking to Martin like this. I'd love to know more about their relationship off the field. I think there are reports where the 2 hung out. I also find this very weird. Were these nights out spent with Cogs berating Martin all night or would the 2 have normal conversations? If they were having normal conversations how come Martin couldn't confront him? Maybe they had no off the field relationship and I'm speculating a little but Hyde reported the 2 went out last week. Not sure if that was alone or with team mates though and I'd imagine that would make a huge difference.
