Dolphins confident they can find TWO starting guards

"We don't have a middle in our draft."

we will once the comp picks are announced (I've been hearing a 3 and two 5ths).

I sure hope you're right. We desperately need that 3rd, and if we can package up three 5ths to move into the 4th, even better.

What about the "best G" as opposed to the 8th AND 15th best (examples only) for nearly identical $$? No one wants an "OK" player at any position.

When you have alot of holes to fill, alot of "OK" players are better than an A+ player and several F players.

Once we get to "OK" level at each starting position we can start upgrading to A+ players.

Let's get some "OK" linebackers and "OK" guards. If we can get the best guard and still land ok or better players at other positions, I'm all for it, but damn, we have special teamers starting on our D, lets get the holes patched.

Agreed. But, I'm looking long term. I don't think any fan would say, "x" is "OK" so I'm satisfied. For the record, I'm equating "OK" with "tolerable." You know, like McCain.
 
I want an a plus lb and a plus interior line aka guard center. Ive seen ok way too long and it sux at those vital positions especially lb.

Except that never happened (of course disregarding the age exaggeration). A single guard may not make a big difference, but both guards certainly will.

Should give people more confidence that you don't need a top tier pick/FA to fill the guard void. A lot has to do with scheme and the coach knowing the type of player he covets.

We should pony up $$ for at least one (ahem) free agent G. Hedge your bets, especially since our other starters aren't exactly ironmen and we've seen what happens to this offense when our OL stops being able to block. This is a running team now, and we will go as far as the running game takes us.

We might be able to find one street FA type to start at the other G spot but to expect to be able to find two starting guards when guard play around the league is terrible? No, I don't buy it.

Yea, if we don't get one of Zietler, Warford, and Leary I'll be pretty disappointed.

By the way there's a restricted guard that's just as good as any of the top unrestricted guys, Andrew Norwell in Carolina, he was undrafted so if Carolina is crazy enough to give him the low tender we should definitely pursue him.

This, and with the Thomas signing (assuming it goes final), we can focus on those two positions, hopefully landing a top tier FA or rookie at each, and then maybe again with average journeyman. If we solidify the Guards and LBs, that really takes care of the major holes on the team.

I used to think that getting decent guard play was not a difficult challenge, but the past 5 years or so have convinced me that's just not the case. We have tried the "draft a guard in the middle rounds" approach for quite a while now (Donald Thomas, Andrew Gardner, John Jerry, Jamil Douglas, Billy Turner, Dallas Thomas) with horrible results. Tunsil worked out but he was a top-10 first round tackle. Good guards do not grow on trees - you either have to pick high or pay high. :(
