"That's not even close," Newsome said. "Really, I enjoy the guys I work with and I think we have a great staff. I really, really enjoy the players and my relationships with them and that helps me in coming to work every day. Of course, winning helps, too."
The speculation that Newsome will call it quits in the near future increased when the Ravens named Eric DeCosta the general manager-in-waiting last year. DeCosta turned down interviews to become a general manager now so he could remain with Baltimore.
In 17 seasons with the Ravens, Newsome is now the architect of two Super Bowl teams. The 17 players that he has selected in the first round have combined for 53 combined Pro Bowls and three (tackle Jonathan Ogden, Lewis and Reed) should land in the Hall of Fame. The 15 Pro Bowl players drafted by the Ravens are the third most since 1996, trailing only the Patriots (17) and Packers (16).
"Ozzie is the foundation of the Ravens," coach John Harbaugh said. "He's drafted every player and made every free-agent signing that's come through here. There's no us without Ozzie. We're not here without Ozzie."
