New intriguing candidate for Dolphins' GM job: Ravens asst. GM Eric DeCosta, who has been contacted for interview per NFL source. Story tk.

Gonna be a really tough get but... there ya go

Again though let's make this clear. He's got it made in Baltimore and has been all but promised the job when Ozzie steps down. It would take an amazing offer to get him.

But if Ross could pull that hire off...

Ross is swinging for the fence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go ross with ya bad *ss!!!!!

We Have Contaced DeCosta

That is fantastic. Let's see if DeCosta wants to be a man, take over his own team, and get out of Ozzie Newsome's shadow- or if Baltimore will allow the interview.

Probably not happening but maybe Ross offers him an ownership stake or something.

Exactly RT @thenflanalyst: Decosta is already paid like a GM, and has been told he will be next one after Ozzie. Going nowhere

I have to say I was unsure how this GM search would go, but it looks like Mr. Ross is doing all that he can. The guy took a few years to learn how the NFL works, but he's finally making good. Mr. Ross is leaving no stone unturned for this GM position and I give him my thanks. Well done Mr. Ross and welcome to the NFL.

no arguments there. It's a talking point though. Personally I have no expectation that he'd accept the job unless it's a situation where Ozzie isn't leaving for years. Baltimore has made him set for life

Please Ross give him the keys to the Kingdom!

Gotta love the interviews Ross has asked for so far. It's a long shot but you never know, until you ask. Newsom has repeatedly stated in the past that he has no plans to retire soon. Perhaps DeCosta has grown tired of waiting. Below is what Newsome said last year about retirement.

"That's not even close," Newsome said. "Really, I enjoy the guys I work with and I think we have a great staff. I really, really enjoy the players and my relationships with them and that helps me in coming to work every day. Of course, winning helps, too."

The speculation that Newsome will call it quits in the near future increased when the Ravens named Eric DeCosta the general manager-in-waiting last year. DeCosta turned down interviews to become a general manager now so he could remain with Baltimore.

In 17 seasons with the Ravens, Newsome is now the architect of two Super Bowl teams. The 17 players that he has selected in the first round have combined for 53 combined Pro Bowls and three (tackle Jonathan Ogden, Lewis and Reed) should land in the Hall of Fame. The 15 Pro Bowl players drafted by the Ravens are the third most since 1996, trailing only the Patriots (17) and Packers (16).

"Ozzie is the foundation of the Ravens," coach John Harbaugh said. "He's drafted every player and made every free-agent signing that's come through here. There's no us without Ozzie. We're not here without Ozzie."
