Dolphins Defensive Lineman Kendrick Norton In Critical Condition After Car Accident

For Norton it is a life changing event and certainly one that ultimately he will realize how fortunate he truly was...... as a Canes/Dolphins fan I am bummed for Kendrick.

Now as a general statement....knowing no details other than he was cut off

Its ridiculous and in my opinion the laws regarding speeding, reckless drinking and unsafe lane changing should carry way more severe punishment....

If you have ever driven on a south Florida highway or interstate you certainly know the kind of moronic, selfish, douchebags that drive these roads.

A driver of a Maserati was involved color me surprised no doubt a arrogant, self indulgent jerk.

Any way speedy recovery Kendrick hope you find your peace.
Did the guy in Maserati cause the accident or was he part of the mayhem that cause the accident accident.

I have been to dozens of big accidents overs the years as a 1st responder, and I will say that the Dr's who made the decision to do what they did, made the most important decision and that was to save the mans life. The aftermath, which Mr Norton will realise in time to come, is that he is still able to spend time with his family and friends. That cannot be replaced.

I wish him well in the future.

How awful, wish him the best in life. Even though it’s an arm and not his life I think Miami should wear a patch or something all year to honor this guy.

Wow!!! Horrible news, my prayers to him and his family...Though devestating news about him never playing football again, the number 1 thing to worry about at this time is health, and him getting through this.

Hopefully, he finds the right support team to help him cope on a few major fronts.
Terrible news.

Folks, don't try to race a Maserati in a pickup truck. In fact, don't race on public streets at all.

Pretty horrible, but I'm glad it looks like he's going to make it out alive.
Was there any report anywhere that he was doing this? I didn't see it, if so.

I Don't love the implications of this statement if there's no report to back it up to be honest.

Could be wrong but I don't believe the team is under any obligation to
support him monetarily because of the accident. Unsure on this but I
would assume the players are somehow covered via a disability policy
that may or may not apply to "accidents" non-related to football...

Maybe someone with more direct insight can elaborate on this???

BTW -- no mention of this on the teams website... I find that a bit "lacking."
Even if the team isn’t monetarily obligated, just saying it would be a humanitarian thing to do. Give him a job or something.

As they say, accidents happen all the time -- and as awful as this situation is -- there are certainly
numerous other horrific events every day. Most folks have ZERO safety net in the event of such
devastation. Perhaps and consider, if we're going to "cover" football players catastrophic events
we should cover the general population as well -- that would be the "humanitarian thing to do."

That said, I am sure the org will do something to benefit the kid.

Unimaginable to be out doing something (errands, hanging with pals, seeing a game), and then you come home and get in a wreck that causes you to lose your arm and thus your career you earned.

I hope it all works out for him.

Sad news. Difficult to say what happened but I was not surprised at the location. That's not the greatest engineering design, as Dolphin Expressway merges to Palmetto Expressway south...836 to 826 if you prefer numbers.

I have had trouble there more than once. Much more frequently than once. It is tight and abrupt and the barriers tend to blend. I have to start mentally reminding myself well in advance to get in that left lane and stay there, no matter what the speed demon honkers and light flashers from behind think about it. Once I reach Mel Reese Golf course just east of the airport I start thinking about that transition from 836 to 826 and getting in the left lane. Otherwise you might never be allowed to move over.

Of course, that is during heavily trafficked conditions. At 1 AM the only logical problem is sharp diagonal lane changing drivers, which unfortunately are so commonplace in this area, even at high speeds. I drive during the wee hours all the time. In Dade and Broward vehicles will flash from behind at absurd speed and change lanes as if nothing could possibly go wrong. There are never enough officers out there to pull them over, so the dangerous practice continues, like a game. I could see a issue in that transition area if a vehicle was heading west on 836 at high speed and suddenly realized it needed to go south on 826 but was not in the proper lane. The entrance occurs much sooner than expected and requires a radical shift left.

Of course, that is mostly speculation but once I read Norton was cut off, and where it happened, that's the immediate scenario and imagery that came to mind.

Not far away from there the Palmetto Expressway bottleneck was smartly redesigned at Flagler Street heading north or south. But that transition from 836 to 826 was not their best work. If anything, make the barriers more obvious and viewable at a distance.
This type of driving is somewhat part of the problem. Staying in the left lane no matter what, causes drivers that are exceeding the speed limit to go in and out of lanes to get around those that are traveling slower for whatever reason. I travel an hour and a half every day on my commute and I see this problem constantly. Slower traffic should stay to the right, there’s a reason they call the left lane the fast lane. Also they have electronic signs everywhere that says slower traffic keep to the right. If some follow these instructions it would prevent people from swerving in and out of traffic to get to where they need to go. Just my view from behind the wheel.

i really have to quit following players on social media..i know my wife got me into it. 2 hours after posting prayers up to Norton from Gawdchaux on IG, he was filming himself driving down the road singing to the phone and paying more attention to IG and the phone than the road.

Devante Parker would do this all the time. I’m not sure if they can, but if I were the Dolphins I would fine players for this kind of reckless activity.

Heard the news first thing this morning. It really hits home and hits hard. I live here in Miami/ Ft. Lauderdale area and there's just way too many unsafe drivers. The other day some moron ran me off of I95 at about 65 mph. I had to whip to the right to avoid the guy and only by the grace of God was there not a car there. I caught up with the guy and told him he needs driving lessons! He gave me the finger and drove away. That's Miami for ya.

I pray for Kendrick and send him strength because he's got a long road back.

I’ve lived in multiple major cities, driven cross country and driven all around the east coast. There is no other place with worse drivers than South Florida.

Between drunk drivers, coked up drivers, speed racer wannabes, texting fools, blind old people and dumb young people, and sometimes a mix of many of these, it is the worst combination of drivers on a road at the same time.
