Dolphins Exploring Osi Umenyiora

Did he do well as OLB? I don't remember if we were in a 3-4 when he got DPOY

I think he was a DE but Saban was running a hybrid defense in 2006, so he also functioned as an OLB in thos situations.

He would start over both thoese guys. Osi is a beast.

Osi would not start over Langford or Starks

Roflmfao. He most certainly would. I swear, reading through this thread, a LOT of people really have no idea how good this guy is. Living in Jersey, I see Osi play all the time. He's ****ing ridiculous, and we'd be damn lucky to land him. He's the definition of the word "playmaker".

I probably should have specified how I got my information a bit more -- sorry about that.

About once a week I speak to Nate Sullivan, who is a Pro Scout for the Dolphins. I happened to speak to him last night and we touched on a variety of topics about certain players, and he brought up that he was currently collecting medical information on Osi Umenyiora. I asked him why, and the rest I think you can easily deduce yourself.

Have the Dolphins CONTACTED the Giants about a trade? Not to my knowledge. They have, however, reached out to Umenyiora's agent to gauge his contract demands and engaged in some preliminary back and forth negotiations.

There seem to be many other suitors for Umenyiora.

Yea, he is going to start as the DE in our 3-4 . . . beating out Langford and Starks . . . ok.

So where did it come from that the Dolphins where willing to give up a 2nd?

Internal discussions. It's been widely known that the Giants were looking for a 1st up until recently.

Before teams even contact other teams about trades (Example: Orton), they will hold internal discussions with a group of staff to determine the value of a certain player. They'll discuss how much the player is worth contractually and if the ROI is worth the risk. From what I was told, the conclusion of those discussions were what I had in my original post.

According to espn giants have lowered there asking price to a 2nd round. Also, Osi has said Seattle is his preferred destination.

Hope your post doesn't get Nate in trouble.

It shouldn't be a problem. After all, I'm no journalist -- just some guy posting on a fan site.

Right...which would be a lesson for Nate to keep his trap shut. I'm no expert on this stuff, but my rec would be not to reveal your sources. Sure, the bums on this site will question your sources, but it's not worth it. JMHO, no offense intended.

Do you know the difference between a 3-4 and a 4-3 and the difference between the DE positions in each? If you've been a fan of the Phins for more than 5 years, you should know first hand.
Osi is NOT a 3-4 end... and therefore would never start over Langford or Starks. The position he would play is OLB. So the people he would be competing with are Misi and Wake. Make sense?

If he's 30, I don't want to know him...especially not for 5 years and $60 Million.
