Dolphins frontrunners for Steelers WR Mike Wallace

there was a reason gates was picked in the 4th round people.also how on eart would we fit wallace into our cap.MAKE HIM AN OFFER HE CANT REFUSE?
Gates is not Wallace. Not even close. Can he get to that level? I guess, but he certainly hasn't shown the even the slightest hint of it yet. Hell, he may not even make the roster.

So if you want to argue that Wallace is too expensive or that the Steelers won't trade him anyways, fine. Those are reasonable arguments. Gates, however, has nothing to do with it. In other words, if the FO's line of thinking is, "we don't need him, we have Gates," then they are morons. I don't think that's the case.

Now, understand, ESPN's Ed Werder was told by Steelers GM Kevin Colbert that Wallace is "not available in trade."
Sorry, I've covered this league too long to know that often a "no" means "not now" and sometimes it transitions to "yes, absolutely." Flatly, the Steelers know they are going to lose Wallace after this season and get practically nothing (probably a compensatory pick) in return. They may well decide to cut their losses and actually get something for Wallace instead.I understand making a move such as this would be expensive on multiple levels. The Dolphins would have to pay the Steelers draft choice compensation and then pay Wallace a hefty contract that averages between $11-$12 million per season. But that's the cost of doing business, folks, when the receivers you drafted (Cylde Gates, for one) did nothing as rookies and aren't exactly doing great things the first few days of this training camp when there's been no hitting and receivers should be dominating the action.

Will they be? I believe they will at least make the call

Per @ArmandoSalguero " Dolphins also would be interested in exploring Mike Wallace but don't think he's available. Also expensive. "

Yea that is my one question how can we afford this guy? I mean I would love him on this team, especially for this season but can we really afford him? They signed brown for 55 mil for 5 seasons or something like that. Do we have that money?

I read we might be able to get him for a third or fourth rounder. I doubt that is true. But the Steelers may get nothing if they do not move on this. It is in their best interest to trade him now. I say pay what it takes. Even a second rounder. You are taking a chance on your second round pick next year and are getting a guarantee with Wallace today. I say go get him. Go hard. Maybe a trade? Jake Long anyone?:err: :ponder:  :hclap:

MIKE WALLACE is a dominant speed WR. If he can be had for anything less than a 1st, MIAMI MUST DO IT. But, also consider the following:

(1) Everyone's saying unload GATES if we get MIKE. I say WRONG!!!!!!!! With OCHO and MIKE, we would have enough veteran WRs, when you throw in BESS and HARTLINE. So, the way I see it, don't say MIKE OR GATES: rather, say MIKE AND GATES, and start GATES out running back KOs, where he showed definite flashes last season. After all, why risk LAMAR or REGGIE on KRs? NAANEE would be the one I'd cut. QED!!!

(2) MIAMI could have "caproom" any time it wants/needs it. I myself am NO CAPOLOGIST. But a few months ago, in the spirit of the times, I did a "straight line", NO GIMMICKS, restructure of JAKE's contract, extending him a year w/an option year, and costing him less that $500,000 cash to do it. I freed up $1.9 Million in caproom, while giving JAKE virtually as much $$ and even more security. I did similarly well w/FASANO, DANSBY, and a couple others. I figure that, just for "openers", restructuring some of our biggest salaries could save MIAMI c. $8+ Million. So, along w/some simple cuts of PARCELLS-like/unneeded/overpaid players, all of a sudden the "cap" poses NO problem at all.

(3) We could perhaps recoup the Draft Pick by trading BESS. While I like his ability as the consummate "possession WR" A LOT, someone else might be willing to pay for that ability w/a 2nd or 3rd. The alternative is HARTLINE, who's bigger and faster, but he wouldn't net MIAMI as much.

(4) WALLACE=B MARSHALL? NOT!!!-- It doesn't appear that MIKE WALLACE is anything like the diva-cancer that B MARSHALL was. B MARSHALL demanded "the lion's share" of both practice "reps" and game "targets". And he whined/bellyached/threw fits if he didn't get them. As a result, i/m/o, he stunted the development of not only WALLACE/PRUITT/MOORE/GATES, but BESS and HARTLINE as well. I have read NOTHING like that about MIKE WALLACE: he just wants to get paid, having established what he brings to the table. And MARSHALL even threw his own QB, MOORE, under the bus, even though MOORE even made him viable as a deep threat. Fancy that! B MARSHALL, and even BESS (45 yard "post" over tight coverage), as deep threats, and having Mr. Diva thank you by throwing you under the bus. I don't see anything like that from MIKE WALLACE. Did I mention that I'm glad that MARSHALL's gone?

We're not recouping draft picks by trading Bess.

Aren't we supposed to have a ton of cap space for 2013? If that's the case, it could work. My memory is hazy on the specifics.

I'm not exactly wild about that idea either, J-Off-Her-Doll. It's just an option. But IF we are to keep one of BESS/HARTLINE, plus OCHO, GATES, MIKE WALLACE, and if TWO of PRUITT/WALLACE/MOORE/OUR ROOKIES on the squad (NOT the P/S, mind you), it might become necessary to trade either HARTLINE or BESS, and BESS would i/m/o fetch a better price.

There are going to be numerous teams after Wallace if the Steelers do decide to make a trade. Cowboys, Seahawks, Colts, Redskins off the top of my head. Hell, the Chiefs and Steelers might even swap WRs, Bowe in the other direction.

On so many levels it's a long shot. Great if it happened, but don't hold your breath.

As the article said, they are going to lose him anyways. Might as well get something out of it. Saying they aren't trading him is a smokescreen IMO.

Even if it is a smoke screen, it would be designed to drive the price of acquiring Mike Wallace up.

The more suitors who fight for Wallace, the more compensation required in a trade.

How much would Miami be willing to give up to get Wallace? A 1st round pick? Multiple picks?

There are other teams with a lot more cap room and more picks who are in more of a need at WR than us.

I would give them a first round pick. Ireland should be in trade talks no matter what.

Also, there's not many teams with a worse WR core than us. We really need a playmaker.
