Dolphins have 'expectation of mastery' for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa

His stats are like McDonalds french fries. They'll fill you up and make you feel good for a minute, but they're empty calories.

Until Tua performs well in the postseason, he's irrelevant.

Hopefully this is the year, his time is running out.
What? He’s played one game. 😂

Josh Allen lost his first playoff game.

Lamar Jackson lost his first two playoff games.

Justin Herbert lost his first 2 playoff games.

Jalen Hurts lost his first playoff game.

Did Tua rank #1 in games missed due to concussion? Or #1 against teams with winning records. Or #1 in getting a playoff win?

Stats can tell stories in many ways. I wanted a different QB with that pick, but will endlessly root for the Fins.

I'm not anti Tua or pro Tua. I just want to see him become a QB with an attitude on the field. Someone who controls the O, makes changes at LOS, gets first downs at critical times...
Tua’s missed as many games as Burrow

Wins aren’t individual stats.

He’s been in 1 playoff game.

He controls the O. He makes changes at the LoS. He’s made plenty of first downs at critical times.

Right, that's the problem. It's year 6, playing in 1 playoff game to this point is unacceptable.

He's been surpassed by Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix after year 1, also unacceptable.

Tick tock...

First of all, I'm not a Tua fan, as I'd prefer a taller, stronger, more athletic QB who is not prone to getting concussed. However, I can admit that Tua has racked up some impressive individual stats. But, great individual stats for a QB don't always result in wins, and wins are what's important. Having the highest QB rating or the most passing yards at the end of the season means nothing if the team ends up with a losing record or barely squeaks into the playoffs and loses in the first round.

As I said, I'm not a Tua fan, but since Grier gave him a big contract, I guess we're stuck with him... for now. That said, I wouldn't be too upset if Miami still has Tua for 2026, but IMO the trio of Grier, McDaniel, and Tua has done absolutely nothing but amass meaningless stats, because they've won nothing. So, I believe the only way to see if Tua is as good as many think he is, is to give him a new GM who can build a competent o-line and a new HC who sees a good o-line as being a must for a good offense, and has an experienced OC.

Even I can see that Tua is not holding back the success of Grier and McDaniel because when Tua doesn't play, they mostly suck. But, it is possible that the ineptitude of Grier and McDaniel are holding Tua back from more success. IOW, even though I'd like to see all three replaced, I feel that Miami can have more success with Tua and a new GM and HC than they would with Grier, McDaniel, and a new QB.

This means nothing, as playoff wins are more important. IOW, a great number of wins are better than great individual stats. The goal is to reach and win the Super Bowl, but individual stats don't count, only wins in the playoffs matter and help you to reach that goal.
But playoff wins don't help my fantasy football team

Well, if he played all by himself then I’d be mad.

In his first 3 years he never had a chance to play in the payoffs. In 2022 he was injured (yes, that’s a concern), but he helped get them there. In 2023, he played and …well, I’ve already covered all the facts, but they lost to the eventual SB champs in KC and that KC team went on to beat both Bills and the Ravens in Buffalo and Baltimore.

Very nice, but as the old saying goes it ain't how you start it's how you finish.

IR, choke, IR is not a good look regardless of passer rating. Hopefully this year is different, it better be.
No disagreements from me. In any regard. With that being said, most complaints don't seem to be focused around his health. Not one of his stans would suggest they aren't concerned with his availability. And most of his detractors seem to pretend that he's not as good on the field as he's objectively proven to be.

Seems like there should be some middle ground between "Tua is a football gawd" and "he stinks up the joint by showing up". Some would rather lose a nut than admit he's the best under center in Miami since #13. That might not be saying a lot, but it ain't exactly nothing. At least, as far as I'm concerned.

Huh? So you think it’s more likely they make the playoffs if Tua plays poorly? Lmao

Fair. The problem I have with Tuanon is they always say "When Tua is healthy he is elite." Therefore he is a great QB who simply has an injury problem, but if he could correct that problem he would be elite.

Ain't no when, ifs, ands, or buts in reality. It's all a part of the same package and it ain't good enough after year 5. It's time to s*** or get off the pot.
