Dolphins' highly-paid WRs not living up to expectations

Now you're just making up stuff to add to your agenda.

Dude. I'm not making stuff up. Multiple people on this forum have claimed that the "offense needs to run through Hartline." Including Hayden.

LD
p.s. lots of people clamor for Hartline to be "targeted more." Which is essentially saying the same thing. Hartline needs to be "targeted" regardless of the fact that he cannot get open unless scheme or less-talented coverage dictates it. The only WRs that should be "Targeted" are ones that can get open at will, or who create mismatches and put true pressure on Ds, or who can win a majority of the physically contested balls. Which -- none of this describes Hartline.

Wallace is not the issue period .He has stepped up big time. If the Qb play was better he would have multiple Tds a game. Now Hartline and Gibson are another story. Hope they show up fast.

You're twisting and reaching. Saying he should be targeted more is not saying he should be focal point nor anything else.

Among Mike Wallace, the NFL's highest-paid wide receiver at $15 million this year, Hartline ($4.7 million), Brandon Gibson ($2.7 million), Rishard Matthews ($570,000) and rookie second-round pick Jarvis Landry ($420,000), the Dolphins have big expectations for this group.

They're supposed to fit easily into the dynamic new system ushered in by offensive coordinator Bill Lazor to make catches, long and short; get yards after catch and move the chains in a way few sets of wide receivers can.

Problem number I: Lack of Yards after catch

Throw short make catch and get yards after catch and move the chains in a way few sets of wide receivers can.

none of these WRs are good YAC guys, aka not system fit.

Problem number II: Tannehill inaccuracy

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill has certainly had his issues. He's rated 29th in the NFL with a passer rating of 74.1. His inaccurate throws and struggles to throw the deep ball have been well-chronicled.

Problem number III: Pass protection still a problem

Tannehill has been sacked nine times, tied for third-most in the NFL. He barely has time to pass.

Problem number IV: Bad route running

And Philbin has often remarked the receivers aren't always in the right spot, a huge problem in a timing-based passing game such as the Dolphins'.

Finally, I told you all that I thought this team was shoddily put together. Need I say more?

Surprise. I thought I was a hater for saying Wallace is overpaid and not a #1. They're all overpaid. Where are you now FinHeaven geniuses? I thought Hartline was your #1/#2 savior? Yes, the same Hartline who never met a blade of grass he wasn't willing to fall on. I didn't want Gibson and preferred for them to draft a WR. I wanted the guy the Saints took instead of ANOTHER tackle in the first round. Silly me.

I don't say this to brag. I'm simply pointing out many instances where me, Joe Six Pack could've fielded a better team than these clowns who have access to much more info than I'm privy to. It's pathetic yet so many of you continue to make excuses for every boneheaded regime that comes through here.

Wake up.

The common denominator is Ryan Tannehill. Give them a decent quarterback and they would light up the league. It would also be nice to have a big physical receiver. They have trouble getting off of the jams.

Hartline needs to stay near the sideline. He is great out there, but using him across the middle isn't really working. We really need to start rolling tannehill out with Wallace crossing deep and hartline working the sideline. But I'm certainly not a coach.

95% of your posts are #HartlineHate.

7 of his 10 catches are for first downs. He's rarely been targeted. Same for Gibson. They are good possession receivers who are complimentary to speed guys.

 @ #HartlineHate. Gotta love the lazy, predictable retort. Do you think he's rarely targeted because he's running around wide open and Tannehill just doesn't want to throw the ball to him? Daniel pointed out all kinds of things you could easily see watching the game if you weren't such a blind ass fan.

Fans like you are part of the problem. Stop accepting mediocrity. All of our WRs would be a #3 on any legit crew with the exception of Wallace. He'd be a #2.

But sure. Call me a "hater" because I want better. Knock yourself out.

i'd be more happy with wallace game and what he brings to the table if i didn't have brian hartline as my next option...the guy even tries to catch slant routes with his body...whens the last time he ran thru contact on anything other than a poor tackling attempt on a comeback route...drops too many balls in traffic...goes to ground all the time...i'm just over it...give me a physical mismatch wr who makes things for himself and not has to be scheme driven...someone you can work fade routes in the end zone with without wasting downs or throw back shoulder at the pylon to after he gets physical at the los...a boss

All true and accurate analysis. Not to mention he's constantly falling down. I've been done with Hartline for years. I want him the hell off of my team. He embodies what the Dolphins are.

Hardline is not and should not be a #2 receiver.

Wallace should be a #2.

Landry will be a great slot receiver I think.

If Tannehill rarely throws him the ball then how is Hartline one of only 8 receivers in the league with 1000+ yard seasons over the past 2?

Hartline has been targeted 19 times, which I would bet is in line with league average for a number 2 receiver.

Hartline's catch rate is low, but is that because of Hartline or Tannehill? Landry's catch rate is also low. Wallace's catch rate is low. Gibson's catch rate is low...

Hartline = Comeback/Curl Route

Wallace = Comeback/Curl Route

And then we wonder why Safety press into the box the entire game.

Start hitting Wallace deep REGULARLY and it will open up the passing lanes underneath.

Hartline is decent but nothing special. We desperately need that power WR, big body, jump and grab those 50-50 balls. Like uh....Brandon Marshall?

Holy cow, Wallace blowing the field vertically, and some body WR scaring the crap out of tiny CB's knowing the shoulder is coming after the catch with some massive YAC.

:chuckle:

His average depth per route this season is 8.3 yards. That comes from coaching.

From 2011-2013 he's averaged 15 ypc. All of a sudden he's averaging 8.7???

Please respond with some facts instead of making this about me.

My friend, please relax. The truth is that the Hartline contract wasn't nearly as bad for the team in 2013 when we were still running an offense that was tailored to his strengths.

Obviously, the contract is terrible now, because Brian Hartline isn't doing jack **** in this offense. But the compensation was fair for the production he was capable of in the Sherman offense.

ALL Phins receivers have been worse than a year ago, Hartline, Wallace, Gibson, Matthews, Clay, and Landry has been nothing great in catching 8 for 70 yards with 2 drops. Why?
