Dolphins Interested in Veteran QB Matt Hasselbeck

With the absolute trash we have on this team, I'm sure the Dolphins are interested in anyone who has even seen a football before.

neither hasselbeck nor bulger. We need some youth. It's just green/frerotte/culpepper all over again.

Let me get this straight? Hasselbeck had less yards, less TDs, a worse complettion %, a lower Qb rating, is 35 years old and yet some of you guys think hes worthwhile?? Maybe I missed a memo, but last I checked you want young, talented players as opposed to old has beens. Henne was well below average, but come on he wasnt 'go get 35yr old Hasselbeck bad'. He threw for 3300 yards and 15 td with the worst play calling ever seen in the history of football. Im on the Mallett bandwagon, but im also not ready to dump Henne until we see what he has without dipsh*t Henning calling one option pass routes with a makeshift OL.

I dunno; he's pretty fragile and I agree about a possible Trent Green Redux. I can immediately think of a few better options (not Bulger!). I'd hate like hell to have to spend any thing of value to acquire him as well. I've said it before but when it comes to other team's discards at critical positions, the old saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure" rarely ends up applying.

But hey, at least we'd get some more attention and props from Mr Elizabeth Hasselbeck pimping for him and the team on ESPN.

the last 3 years he hasn't had more touchdowns than interceptions and played in a weaker division
Henne had 3 more touchdowns than hasslesack..

and he is 35 years old i wouldn't trade a 6th round pick for him..

Out of all the free agent QBs, id rather Carson Palmer. Bulger and Hasselbeck would provide some competition for Henne, but lets not forget Pennington. He's injury prone, but really good when healthy.

If they are thinking about offering Hasselbeck anything more than a small, incentive-laden contract, then this is just further proof that this front office has no clue of what the hell it's doing.

This is all just noise to me at this point. "DOLPHINS ONCE AGAIN INTERESTED IN WASHED UP SHORT TERM SOLUTION QB IN AN ATTEMPT TO CATCH LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE WITH A GUY WHO HASN'T BEEN GOOD IN 3 YEARS"
The ONLY possible improvement at QB in this off season is to trade for Orton. Outside of that, Mcnabb, Palmer, Hasselbeck, Bulger etc are all either washed up or were never really that good anyway. As far as the draft goes, IMHO the only guys available to us will be huge projects at best. Truthfully, the best course of action is to put the best team around Chad Henne that we possibly can and hope that he turns a corner... A little coaching might help as well.

IMO this is a good sign and signing if true. Indications then are they will draft a QB early and use a season for development while Hasselback would bridge the gap. Lord I hope i's Mallet they are looking at and have an opportunity to get him at 15.

Hasselback at his age is a much better option the Henne.

Well, presuming they want to give Henne another year in a different offensive scheme, this guy is better than Thigpen and would push and possibly take the starting spot.
Draft a QB in round 1, bring in Hasselbeck and let the four of them battle it out in camp (if we have camp). Release the weak link.

If this is true, then Miami is definitely planning on drafting either Mallet or Locker in the first round.....

Draft Mallett, sign Hasselbeck to play for a year or two. Let Henne and Mallett battle it out for the backup.

Winner.

The last thing we need to do is have another issue where we have to have seperate offenses for the guy who is starting, and the guy who is developing. If we get a vet, we need to get someone who is similar gamewise to Mallett, not someone with a somewhat weak arm, who has been playing in what is basically a west coast offense.

I say we should draft a QB in the first round and get our franchise QB. We haven't done this since 1983. It's not a coincidence that we started to suck when we haven't drafted a QB in the first round since Marino left.
