Dolphins keeping Jim Turner?

One thing is for sure the Dolphins are pretty much giving the finger to the Wells report right now. They could have fired him and no one would have batted an eye. Philbin is sticking by his coaching staff. That does take guts.

...or stubbornness.

But the reality is we don't really know if Turner will be staying. Ross took longer to fire Ireland than many thought necessary. The same plodding process may be at work here.

Just imagine if Ross and the entire Phins staff did the opposite. We'd be Super Bowl champions again!!!

"If every instinct you have is wrong, then the opposite would have to be right"

Wouldn't it be a statement to turn the page and ax Turner by now. The team has a better line coach in Benton already on staff.

Guess Dallas doesn't count huh...Monte Kiffin still has his job and the Cowboys had one of the worst Ds of all time...but no only Miami does it...

Did Kiffin also oversee a unit that dragged the organization's name through the mud over their antics???

Everyone has their own interpretation of the Well's report. I personally blame Martin for not expressing his depression and true cause of his anxiety.

Martin came to Turner first and expressed his depression. Turner seems to be the person most "in tune" with the OL - as he should be.

Friends of mine played for Turner at Harvard in early 2000's. They thought of him as a good couch and great guy...and none are really surprised about the events that went down in Miami 2013.

If you want to fire Turner for the OL performance in 2013 that is one thing. I do not believe there is cause within the Well's report that justifies his dismissal - Martin is mostly to Blame.

I was sure Turner would be fired 10 minutes after the report came out. By not doing it, the Dolphins are making a statement. Although He may still end up getting fired but it's clear that the people closest to the situation believe the problem was with Martin and Martin alone.

Damn right they are making a statement. I believe that by taking no action, the only acknowledgement of culpability they are making is one that shows Coach Philbin WAS aware of Turners actions, approved the actions, and sees no reason to fire someone over said actions, because he was OK with it all to begin with.

That they are waiting for the NFL to exact punishment is irrelevant in my eyes, that's the NFL punishment. The team should show that they also will drop you if your a problem, not just talk nice in front of the camera's and let the NFL handle their business.

Or the team doesn't agree with Martin's(Wells) version of the story and doesn't think he should be fired over it.
Ross said he knew what was going to happen and maybe believes it will only be a suspension for Turner. That would explain the non-firing of Turner and the hiring of the other O-line coaches.
Personally, I would fire him anyway for the way the line played. It's pretty bad when a free agent vet comes in halfway through the season and teaches the young guys more than the coach

This guy lied to Philbin about the OL players. That alone is grounds for termination. I'm very surprised he is still with the team. I guess Philbin thinks he has some redeeming qualities.

or he has recordings of him telling phailbin what was going on and phailbin laughing and telling him to talk about his mom...

you have to remember that no one in the NFL sees anything wrong with this locker room behavior...the only people calling it bullying are bleeding hearts and the hand me a trophy I never learned how to handle my own problems people IMO...

similar crap happens in every sport from peewee on up in every locker-room including womens teams...

You can spin this however you want - the Dolphins making a statement, them not believing the report, whatever you want to call it...

Jim Turner should have been fired the day the report was released.

I don't know if the team agrees or disagrees with the Wells Report but I think they want to gather more information before making a decision on Turner and comments made by McDonald's agent Brent Tessler on ESPN's Outside The Line doesn't make that any easier.
Tessler also said his client "does not like the way he is portrayed in the report" and that McDonald's relationship with Dolphins offensive line coach Jim Turner has been mischaracterized, going as far to say that Turner "is one of the best people and coaches he's ever played for."

"Well, if you just take the report at its words, naturally it appears that coach Turner participated in some behavior that could be seen as insensitive or not becoming of a man of his position within the organization," Tessler said. "But according to Andrew, he absolutely loves coach Turner."
