Dolphins Love DT Jonathan Allen - Our Big FA Fish?

There are two down sides to signing Johnathan Allen.

1) He's already 30 yrs old.
2) His contract will be sizable. Perhaps pricing out Miami.

He's certainly talented and would add tremendous leadership in Miami. But with a draft loaded with talent at the DT position, it might be wiser to invest F/A dollars into other areas of need. I'd certainly be happy if Allen wants to play for the Dolphins, and if it becomes reality, I'd be a huge fan.

Keep in mind no one wanted to trade anything for his unguaranteed $17M salary in 2025, so its going to be less than that.

2 years, $26M, 13M guaranteed might be close to what he's looking at.

You would've assumed anyone that really wanted him would've thrown at 7th rounder at Washington to take him. There will be a market but it likely won't be a frenzied market.

But are you using 13 or 48 on one? I'd prefer not to.
I would take a DT early in the draft. But there are different ways to go about it.

If Miami added Allen, they could take a corner high. There aren't a lot of quality corners in the draft, or free agency. Right now, Kohou is the starter opposite Ramsey.

Allen would be a great addition for the right price. He’s probably going to want more than I would want to tie up in him.

As mentioned it’s a deep draft at DT. Of the price is too high I’d rather focus finances to other positions, sign rotation DT’s and draft the future.

That would be a perfect scenario for me, I love me some corners.

Will Johnson won’t be able to participate at Michigan’s pro day in two weeks because of a hamstring injury.

Grier drafted Igbo and he was a massive failure so he tried to fix that mistake by drafting Cam Smith and that was a massive failure so it stands to reason to let Grier draft another cornerback with a high pick. Grier has the greatest job in the world. Screw things up and get paid to be the one to fix the things you screwed up.

So you think Will Johnson will be a bust because Igbinoghene wasn’t a good pick for us?

Cam Smith could still develop into a good player, he’s got the physical skill set. Injuries have set him back and playing in two different defenses in two years hasn’t helped either.

Not a good enough reason to pass on Will Johnson.

I think Will Johnson could bust because he played behind a super talented front 4 -- making his job easier -- and we won't know what the speed and agility really look like because he's not gonna run.

I'd stay away from corner until the 3rd-5th ... that looks like where the meat & potatoes are. I've seen enough buyer beware stuff with Johnson from smart people that I would be tempted to do the same. He'll be gone by 13 so shouldn't be a problem.

I don't like the class, personally. Fuller would've been nice for another season until the team is ready to put some real investment into the position. Miami might need 3 starters in 2 years depending on how things shake out ... hell, they could lose every single one of those guys.

Could be the plan. Grier has always emphasized the second and it's probably 0 percent chamcr that Kohou will be starting opposite Ramsey.

Pay the man ... draft DT @ 13 ... instant upgrade in QB pressures, and a mentor for the #1 pick.

Do the same with the OL using the #2 and #3 pick on T/G.

The Dolphins could be instant playoff contenders without another move and a healthy Tua.

BPA on day 2 and 3 since we have more holes than a Diddy party

Gives me Suh vibes. We really gonna fall for this again?

The draft is loaded with cheap DTs. Allen is gonna want 20 million a year. I donno maybe I'm wrong but this feels vary "same old Dolphins" to me.

Sign aging or injury prone veterans in free agency > Don't draft well > lack depth and ultimately we fall apart late in the year > No one is held accountable > Return back to number 1

This is the type of move that would indicate the status quo here

Yea, I feel the same.

Nothing against Allen, he's a stud but he's old and expensive.
