Dolphins | M. Wright has an opportunity, but he may not take advantage

I am sure most of you don't even know what it is like to be 350lbs. Well let me tell you he has to be that size if he is going to maintain muscle mass which he will need for the season. Being that size for years dropping 30 pounds will take about 30 days for him if not sooner in the Miami humidity. If you go into camp at 320 as a lineman you will see yourself about 290 by the season opener. What everyone should be wondering is how is his muscle mass compared to last year. I just love it when people start name calling and want to cut a player based on rumor and lack of information. Lets wait for the evidence first before we hang him.
He is supposed to be lighter.

Team members and officials from what I have taken from the news update, have said he is out of shape and is behind what he should be. They aren't saying this about other O-lineman coming in overweight, so why Manny?
Because he is nowhere near in shape and is not making an obvious concerted effort, that's why.

I read somewhere that Wright said Saban was riding him pretty hard, I can see why. He is a young kid and needs some sort of authoritive figure like Saban to whip his a$$ into shape, don't worry too much about him right now...give him a couple more years.

Saban gave us a clue to this when he talked about "players' body mass" issues. Many of us wondered at the time if this was a reference to manny Wright and this suggests it well might have been.

I've always been angered by someone wasting talent at anything! Wright risks losing the chance to be an NFL player. Maybe he doesn't want it? If so fine, then walk away. But if you are going to take the team's money then stepo up and do what needs to be done!

All I have to say is the kid will be in shape by the time the season starts. He has too much talent to be in jeopardy of losing his job (after 1 year). He is a youngster who is flustered probably by his pay because he should be making much more with his talent, and is still maturing as a NFL player. He will be ok.

With that being said . . can u understand my concern with you guys saying throw a "3rd round pick" or some of you have said "If a first is necessary, do it" at Ahmad Brooks. He has similar issues to Wright. I mean a fifth round pick is nothing for the 1st/2nd round ability of Wright, it was worth the gamble. But to give up a day 1 pick . . a clean character, hard working player, for a guy with work ethic and character issues is crazy. Talent or not, its not worth the gamble.

it is HIS responsibility to STAY in shape, not play himself into it. I can't wait for training camp... I'll be callin' him a fatso from the fence.

Good he deserves it

Tie a twinky to a damn stick, tape it to his head and make him run for it, no excuse for this

This really sucks. He should be 30 lbs. lighter and can't stop eating? Weight problems can ruin a ceareer and it seems it could go that way.

I totally agree. I have been trying to get my weight down as well and my new exercise plan of eating oatmeal cookies while watching reruns of Seinfield doesn't seem to be working. It is seriously affecting my shot of living my dream.......of being a porn star.

Hey u have no argument from me, but what do u suggest?? We cut him right now? The kid just turned 22 and he cost us a 5th round pick in the supplemental draft. We all knew he was a gamble, we all knew he had work ethic issues . . all I kept hearing was, oh what a steal, what a steal. U just don't get 1st/2nd round talent for a fifth with no consequences. This is one of the consequences and its something he will have to be helped with. He is having problems doing it on his own, coaches have to get on him in TC and coach him out of it . . and if he can't be coached out of it or if he can't turn the right corner he will be a wasted fifth round pick we all were excited about.

Hope we are not having this conversation about Brooks and a 3rd round pick next year.

Manny is a typical "gifted" athlete who doesnt have the heart or work ethic yet to conribute....He better get a fire lit under his *** or he's gonna have a very short career.

He'll be alright. Saban ain't gonna let him go to waste.
thats why some people never live up to expectations........"the only place Success comes before Work is in the dictionary!"

Attitude is the problem here...I know he is 22 and i know we "only gave up a 5th"for SUPPOSED 1st round talent .. but this is a bad sign for the Manny Man...Considering his past and the fact that he actually got game time play last year ,he has NO business coming into camp out of shape .. and I dont buy the theory of him playing into shape or the he has to be at 350 to play at 320? cmon the article is talking about him not having the conditioning to finish the daily training circut!!! ...this is not the old football league, its a YEAR ROUND deal and they get paid damn good money to stay in shape, etc. in the offseason ..considering what he had at stake this year he should have been really working this offseason to show he is worth keeping ,I believe he IS in jeopardy of losing his roster spot regardless of his age and draft status versus "ability" saban doesnt mess around long so if Manny doesnt show alot in the next few months it will be bye bye. That posistion is Thin for us as it is and wasting a roster spot on a guy who is out of shape and unmotivated doesnt sound like something saban will do.Good luck manny.:(
