Dolphins make list of top 5 worst offseasons

I need more of this…still think we are a not very good roster because of Grier so not sure how much McDaniel can squeeze out of these guys, he’s got an uphill battle from a roster standpoint

McDaniel needs to be more serious this might be a good first step

That dude is talking like he is the leader of the defense if you listen to his whole interview

Shoukd be a great battle in camp between him and Gay

Gay is very talented and fast

The overall vibes do seem low. I will agree with the author there. For me, it's also about comparing what other teams in the division did, as you are never building in a vacuum.

New England brought in Mike Vrabel as head coach, so the Patriots are bound to be better. I thought Buffalo drafted well. Talent wise the Bills are probably the best team in the AFC.

While I don't think Miami made up ground on the Bills, and it looks like a transition year, I also think it was a sneaky good offseason for the Dolphins.

Many here pegged guard as the biggest weakness and Grier immediately brought in Daniels, who PFF ranked as the 7th best guard two years ago. Savaiinaea was added in the second round. Other than Booker, he may be the most physical guard from the draft and he offers position versatility. So, this could be a huge upgrade for Miami.

A lot of talent left, but the Dolphins appear to be in a culture change. The entire offseason was about getting more physical. Grant, Phillips and Biggers on the defensive line, Gordon and Mattison at running back, Britt at linebacker, Westbrook-Ikine at wide receiver etc.

While the secondary is a huge question mark, over the last two years Miami has collected some bigger, physical players there. Press coverage seems to be a commonality too. Marshall, Johnson and Duck to name a few.

Just trying to give the board an idea about how the national and local media thinks about us..95 percent of them think we are going to take a big step back this year.

Really gonna come down to health, but seems we took the cautious route and that’s why we got graded so low.

I’ve seen several national writers say that our secondary has the potential to be not only the worst secondary, but the single worst position group out of any team. I think that’s a stretch and entirely due to the amount of young guys we have, so signing Douglas or Samuel jr would go a long way towards stabilizing the group.

Really hoping one of the young guys take over a starting position, I have the most hope for Storm Duck and Jason Marshall in the CB room and Dante Trader and Pat McMorris in the safety room…I really think a couple of those guys will emerge as a long term solution.
I think that's a fair assessment based on the lack of experience Miami has in the secondary, and the lack of highly drafted players other than Smith. But like you said, maybe a couple of those guys will emerge.

It appears Weaver wants players who can press and play man to man. There are a few bigger, physical guys that the Dolphins have collected in the secondary over the last two years. It will be a fun competition to watch.

Not an exact figure just basing it off everything I’ve been reading this offseason from all the different sites and media outlets…there were maybe a couple out of all of them that thought we got better so it stood out.

Fair enough. Your info is usually pretty specific, which is why I was like, “wait, what?”

Soft rebuilds and bad off seasons (on paper) go hand in hand. I think Ross finally reeled in Grier a bit. The good news is we don't/didn't have 3 seasons in a row with the fewest amount of draft picks.

Cleaning up the salary cap (presumably, by trading Ramsey). Chubb and Hill next year.

Finally addressing the weakness of the offense (IOL).

Adding backup QB's with real arms.

Being on the plus side of draft pick ammo in 2026.

Adding power to the running game.

Removing the players that cost us W's - Thompson, Poyer, Mostert, Huntley, Holland, Eichenberg, R.Jones

Kenneth Grant!!!!!

Expect little and the disappointment pill is not as bitter…it’s a solid plan

He is right about McD and decent teams… not only does McD coached teams not beat them but they do not even compete on that level.
That is probably the most disappointing thing to me about his tenure
Agree. I do think part of that has been the lack of talent on the offensive line, though.

The more physical teams were able to play two safeties deep and still limit the Dolphins run game.

Hopefully, there will be more answers on offense now.

Who cares what the national media says? What does that have to do with how our season goes? I’ll tell ya. No one and nothing.

This thread is a big nothing burger, but since our old friend isn’t here to post it, we had to have someone over take the responsibility of shitting on the current team.

I'm usually a complete 180 from the national perspective. They always praise too much when things seemingly are going well (early 2023) and tend to over exaggerate the negatives when things go a bit sideways (2024). As a glass "half empty" kind of guy I'm actually cautiously optimistic going into this season. Hill playing most of the year with a wrist injury isn't getting enough attention. He seems motivated to prove himself again, he will be better now that he will be 100%. Another year of Johnnu in the system can't hurt (assuming he stays). Did they do enough to solidify the O-Line.... maybe? Phillips and Chubb making their way back along with Chop. That's some serious talent on the edge. Also we appear to have a very favorable schedule. 2 biggest unknowns.... a very green secondary and of course Tua's health. I don't believe for a second that this is a team that will be picking in the top 5 of next years draft. Don't be surprised if week 17 against the Pats is for the last wildcard spot.

Nothing we didn't already know, but this paragraph below is the undeniable indictment of the Mike McDaniel era or should I say error for those that still want to sing his praises. It's not just Tua. It's the whole entire team that folds like the proverbial cheap suit against good competition. This season needs to be McMoron's last chance to prove that he is something more than a high-priced ball boy.

"Under McDaniel, the Dolphins are 24-9 vs. non-playoff teams, and 4-14 vs. playoff teams. McDaniel is also still looking for that first postseason win."

This is really a microcosm of a bigger issue in our society. Instant gratification and eating the first marshmallow. I wish someone who actually cares would go back and see all those teams who these media nerds, who lets be honest have no clue what they are talking about, that "won" the offseason actually fared during the actual season that counts. And it is not necessarily a criticism of their lack of knowing the future, but more the minions (us) who actually look at it as fact or "yes, they must know something." As a whole our society needs to be smarter, but I have no faith that will ever happen. The movie "Idiocracy" could have been made better, but it rings so true about where we are at and going.

My god you cry about everything, so emotional all the time. I dont care if you don’t like the subject matter, skip the thread. Actually I’m tired of people like you that just come to complain about the thread so I’ll just put you in ignore like I should’ve already done.

Why is it so hard to skip a thread if you don’t like what’s posted in it? I also actually disagree that we had a bottom 5 offseason and was here to give my opinion, so don’t read the thread if you just want to complain about what it’s about-.

I don't know the stat, but wouldn't most teams have better records versus crap teams than good ones? Obviously, the % would vary, but what team is 29-9 versus playoff teams and 4-14 versus non-playoff teams? Kind of a useless stat that needs perspective.
