Where the Dolphins did surprise was in their decision not to address the wide receiver position until late in the draft. After the departure of former No. 1 wideout
Brandon Marshall, most analysts expected Miami to use a second or one of their two third-round picks to grab a target for Tannehill.
However, once Miami did finally decide to take a wide receiver in the sixth round, they got a good one in Michigan State product
B.J. Cunningham.
It is actually a bit surprising that Miami was able to land Cunningham with the 183rd overall pick, considering many scouts had him graded as a third-round prospect. Cunningham is not blessed with truly elite speed (he ran a 4.59 in the 40-yard dash at the combine), but he is a pro-ready route runner with the savvy and know-how to make an immediate impact on the NFL stage.
