Where the Dolphins did surprise was in their decision not to address the wide receiver position until late in the draft. After the departure of former No. 1 wideout Brandon Marshall, most analysts expected Miami to use a second or one of their two third-round picks to grab a target for Tannehill.

However, once Miami did finally decide to take a wide receiver in the sixth round, they got a good one in Michigan State product B.J. Cunningham.

It is actually a bit surprising that Miami was able to land Cunningham with the 183rd overall pick, considering many scouts had him graded as a third-round prospect. Cunningham is not blessed with truly elite speed (he ran a 4.59 in the 40-yard dash at the combine), but he is a pro-ready route runner with the savvy and know-how to make an immediate impact on the NFL stage.

B.J Cunningham could be what takes this draft from good to great. A potential starting QB, RB, WR, TE, RT and DE......If he could be our late round Donald Driver, it'd go a long way for Tannehill and this offense.

after doing a little research i think we got a very good wr in bj that can contribute day 1. he is the whole package. he blocks well down field, pretty consistant catcher, good route running, but has average speed. the guy seems like a steal for the 6th round. i think he had 12 tds last year. he def shows up in the red zone

2 years of great production, loads of TD's and he was the go-to guy. He constantly was making catches and able to juke or bull his way for more YAC. He plays in pads like his timed speed, unlike Streeter who looks slow, yet blazes an insane 40 time. Both he and Matthews are real nice-looking late round gems. Both guys were the go to guys for all big plays. I'm very impressed with what I have seen on videos with these 2. Remember that precise routes and quickness and explosion in and out of cuts are what is important in the WCO. Slants, ins, outs, deep outs, curls these guys ran those routes and ran them well, plus they both looked to be tough catching the ball in traffic, their hands look real strong. I'm anxious to see there development, I believe BJ is more polished att and it looks like he has that Ryan Broyles personality to him where he just will not be denied, both have the build and measurables for that WCO WR. Definitely 2 late round gems.......

I really liked the pick and I hope i can be a playmaker for us for years to come.

Hmmm, he ran a 4.6 at the combine and didn't try to beat it at his pro day, which suggests to me that was a very good result for him . Saw a short interview with him at his pro day where he seemed really happy with his 4.6.

I know getting separation is a slightly de-emphasised advantage in a WCO, but it's still pretty important, not to mention stretching the field. A lack of pace is a pretty debilitating weakness for a WR in any offense.

At the Shrine game, I saw comments that he struggled with quick snappy passes as you would expect him to face in a WCO, but was a stud plucking long balls and jump balls out of the air.

These knocks don't mean he won't be successful, but maybe explain why he fell to where he did.

"Cunningham should provide a solid complement to incumbent receivers Davone Bess and Brian Hartline, and his crisp route-running and ability to make plays after the catch should make life easier for Tennheill should the quarterback be asked to start early as a rookie."

Who the hell is Tennheill? lol!

I chuckle at those who say 6th and 7th round picks arent important. They are important if you are good at spotting talent.
