I’d assumed #Dolphins CB Brent Grimes was a candidate for franchise tag if a deal wasn’t done. But I’m told tag is not realistic at $11.3M

If they can't get a deal done I guess the Dolphins lose him. Not good. Hope they get a deal done.

I think a deal gets done...the tag would be pricey signing grimes to a 3 year deal would be cheaper (at least this season).

Why pay $11 million for one season when you can sign him to a 3 year deal for not a whole lot more?

The fact is that good teams will game plan to offset their opponents strengths and exploit their weaknesses (something the Dolphins don't seem to do very well).

Instead of spending a large percentage of the cap on a few fan hero-worshiped high salary players and still never seeming to reach the playoffs, how about putting together a 'team' of good regular salary players and then coach them to play as a team?

The crappier teams sign a few big names to sell tickets because they know that at the end of regular season they will be sitting at home watching the playoffs.

A better strategy it would seem would be to put together a highly motivated group of talented players that can come together as a complete team displaying the synergism needed to make it into and also win playoff games.

Exactly especially with it being rumored the cap space could jump another 15-20 million next year...

It would be a bad start for Hickey to let Grimes walk. Really bad start.

Grimes himself stated he didn't want to be franchised so this isn't a big deal. It will be a big deal if he signs elsewhere.

As much as I'd love to resign Grimes, I can understand if Hickey would like to put the big money in younger talent. It's unlikely this team is Super Bowl bound this upcoming season or the season after. We need talent on the field that can be productive three, four, five years down the road... except for the o-line because a bad o-line hampers qb development.

Yes, Grimes is a beast but we did draft two CB's to take over.

Personally, you bring back Grimes I don't mind over paying a bit but the $11 tag was nuts.

Looking for a 3 year at $5 with $10 of it guaranteed. If need be push it up to 3/$6 with $12 guaranteed.

Letting your best players walk…awesome.

A player that actually wants to be here as well.

He hasnt "walked" just yet. Lets see what happens before we flame the team.

If he is franchised, they can still work out a long term deal up until June. The tag can be used to extend the negotiating period and keep him from free agency if needed.
