Dolphins not to franchise Grimes?

Chris Perkins ‏@chrisperk 2m

#Dolphins CB Brent Grimes cautiously optimistic he'll get multi-yr deal instead of franchise tag.

Grimes: "I'm optimistic. It seems like some things can happen, but like I said u never know with this."

The cap would be raised from $123m to approximately $130m. That's not a $15-$20m difference in a raise of the cap lol. It does make a difference though and know what you mean. Grimes will not leave Miami unless he finds it straight up unattractive. If he is interested in staying, he will be resigned.

I think he's saying it might go up 15-20 mil in 2015.

don't worry. Mrs. Hickey is taking Miko shopping for some new handbags today.

His wife just made a comment on Twitter that her house is going on for sale on March 11th. :(

Maybe it means Brent's getting paid by the Dolphins by March 11 and they are getting a new one. Probably my wishful thinking.

Heauxm is where the ❤️ is. Mine will be up for grabs come March 11th. Im curious to see who really wants it.

This very much reminds me of the Reggie Bush situation... I hope they don't make that mistake again and we lose out on a great player.

I don't think Miami will franchise him, but...man, if they do...Miko is going to tear them a new one!
Look out!

More from Jackson.

Cornerback Brent Grimes, arguably the most critical of the Dolphins’ impending free agents, said today he’s optimistic but not certain that he will re-sign with Miami.

He said his agent Ben Dogra has spoken to the Dolphins a few times.

“I’m pretty optimistic,” he said. “They said they like me here and want to have me back. Hopefully, it happens sooner than later, and I don’t have to worry about it.”

Grimes said the Dolphins have not discussed slapping him with the franchise tag, which likely will top $11 million. “Nobody wants to get franchise tag, another one-year deal.”

The deadline to use the franchise tag is next Monday. But even if a player is given the tag, negotiations on a contract can continue, and the tag can be lifted, until mid-July.

Nope RT @Buffalophinsfan: @iHeartMiko help relieve some anxiety here is @BGrimey21 close to staying in Miami?Shoot a # 50%70% chance?

Yes, Grimes is a beast but we did draft two CB's to take over.

Personally, you bring back Grimes I don't mind over paying a bit but the $11 tag was nuts.

Looking for a 3 year at $5 with $10 of it guaranteed. If need be push it up to 3/$6 with $12 guaranteed.

Problem is he OUTPLAYED REshad Jones and we are paying Jones 7 M it will take nothing LESS than 7.5 to get this deal done

Bottom line is this: How much guaranteed money can he expect to get? 11 million for one year is a ton of money and it would be his and then Miami isn't on the hook beyond this season. We drafted a bunch of defensive backs and there will probably be other, bigger and younger players available in FA and the draft in 2015.
Franchising Grimes still pays him enough money to reward him for his good service in 2013 and set him up for life and it keeps Miami flexible for following seasons.

If we did have to 'blow this up', do we need a guy like Grimes around for a rebuild?

He's our right now, so keep it that way. Don't let him go now, Franchise tag him now and then try and work something out.

I'm not the only one who feels the Franchise tag option is a very useful tool for just this kind of situation, right?
