Dolphins Offseason Thread (Mandatory Mini-Camp 6/10 - 6/12)

Sorry, I don’t get your point. Aren’t all coaches trying to design plays to get an easy score or a big play? Would you knock Mahomes because Andy Reid designed a great play? Why wouldn’t coaches try to make it easier for their QB?

Sorry Rick I’ve been tbru this more times than I can count. Laid it out there and everything.

I’m not doing it again.

But I will say I’ll go out on a limb and even you can make that “read” and decision there on that throw and execute it.

You didn’t disagree…you literally did exactly what I said from a baseball side. You made it harder but you didn’t swing opposite handed. Broom stick and smaller balls makes it harder but you didn’t have to change your swing to accomplish the task. They aren’t catching tennis balls with both hands.

As I pointed out, there is 100% still value in doing it. However you want to make it harder and still keep it more game like, you just use a small leather football.
It's harder to body catch or gator arm a tennis ball.

Waddle needs to use his hands more.

I don’t agree here as the comparison of objects are completely different relative to the job requirement

It’s more about focus and how that affects drops then it is the act of catching a football
I think that is what I said about focus and keeping an eye on the ball - which ever one is thrown at you - -big brown ball or smaller yellow ball.

I dont think the shape of the ball matters in that drill, at all.

Me thinks, you build up the trenches and establish a very good foundation first, and then you overpay a top-tier free agent or two to help put you over the top. For example, what the Cowboys and 49ers had with Charles Haley.

So what? It’s a great play design. That’s what an offensive coach is hired to do. Every coach in the league should be striving to make it easy on their QB. I asked you before, if this system is so easy on the QB, why has every other QB besides Tua looked so bad playing in it? Every one of them has looked worse playing in this system than the one they came from previously. You under play the execution part of it on Tua’s end. Not everyone can execute it at that high a level.

It does matter. It doesn't make it useless drill. It just means it could be better. Unless the drill aims to break up monotonous drill work which has value in its self.

I just want to reiterate to people replying these like I am saying it's a dumb drill....thats far from what I am saying. I like the drill. It just could be better if the goal is work on catching wet footballs. This doesn't really work on that but again, it's not without value.

Yes but it takes far too many important elements out of the actual factor of Waddle body catching to actually work on hand catching with Waddle. This drill will not help him with that.

If you want receivers to work on catching the ball away from the body and not into their chest, you have a QB throwing footballs with defenders and maybe put a connection ball strapped to their chest where they can't catch the ball deep into the body.

For what it's worth, I make a living in skill acquisition and motor learning with professional athletes. All these drills have a place and value, it's just not usually the value that is expected by some. Including professional organizations.

How I preach as well 👍 if u want to sprint faster, practice sprinting. Want to jump higher, practice jumping. Want to be better at catching a football outside ur frame, practice catching a football outside ur frame
