My opinions arent chosen by popularity. If they were, i wouldnt have spent the last 4 years insisting Jeff Ireland be fired. I was in the minority then as well.
Its actually kind of amusing your next point, i was just talking about it concerning another matter not to long ago. Fans assuming something is automatically done correctly simply because its been endorsed by those who run this franchise. To answer the unspoken question: yes, there are those on this forum whose opinion i respect far more than the individuals who run this franchise. Because their stated views have consistently proven to be more accurate over multiple years.
If you dont terribly mind, please answer: what about the last 5 straight non-winning seasons has filled you with confidence about the individuals who run this franchise? Why should we assume something is the right move simply because it has the words "Miami Dolphins" connected to it?
I love it when Spesh is right about something.
Few posters articulate their points so well and blend in humor as a kicker.
And make no mistake, he is dead on in this thread from so many angles......
1 - The drop off from the best center in the league(which Pouncey isnt anyway) to the 15th best center is hardly a major impact on a team's ability to win games.
2 - Therefore not only is it a steep price to pay for a center, but a use of resources in a salary cap scenario that could be used elsewhere.
3 - Compounding that is the fact that center is a position that could easily be replaced with a player at much less cost and/or draft pick.
4 - Pouncey is just plain trouble. Anyone who dosent recognize that fact is in denial. There is a serious risk of him being suspended at some point. If you put so much stock in him you are setting yourself up to be let down.
5 - Finally, it would definitely be wise to sell high. In fact, I wouldve traded him last offseason. There is no way he would be on my roster right now. While his value is greatly overstated on FH, if you could fetch so much as a 3rd rounder for him, the team could use that pick or a lesser one to replace him. In doing so you wouldnt get the same talent(but, of course that wouldnt cripple us) but we would certainly save money against the cap as well as lose the headache of having to deal with Pouncey. On top of all of that, I feel like having him off the roster would actually be a plus for our team in terms of leadership and overall character of the team.
Basically put, this team is better off without Pouncey. There were players available in FA at much cheaper contracts who have proven they can play the position just fine if we wanted to avoid using a mid round pick on a center.
Signing one of those vets along with trading Pouncey wouldve accomplished 3 things............
1. Saved the trouble of having Pouncey on the roster. No worries about what he may do, if he might get suspended, or having bad character on the team.
2. Saved money against the cap that could be used at positions of significance.
3. Most importantly, brought us a decent draft pick that could be used to help this team in other areas.
Those are pretty good bits of value there all for just the drop down of talent from Pouncey to whatever veteran center we wouldve signed. But, what do I know? I dont work for the Miami Dolphins therefore I cant possibly make the correct decision. Whatever they decide is correct, thats why they run the Miami Dolphins.
