Dolphins pursuing OL Roger Saffold

I will tae any of he three top LTs an Scaffold. That will be the start of a very good OL. Maybe thomas can start at RG next year too.

Why do we always go after players who have had major injuries??? The only one who's worked out is grimes but damn,does anyone else notice this?

Sometimes it's the only way to get a hold of other really good players who wouldn't otherwise be available via FA.
 
The Cardinals are planning to upgrade their offensive line by cutting a veteran starter and signing a better replacement.

Daryn Colledge, a guard who has started all 16 games in all three of his seasons in Arizona, is apparently about to be released. Colledge said goodbye to Arizona on Twitter on Saturday.

The 32-year-old Colledge would have been due a $4.8 million salary this season, so it’s no surprise that he was a cap casualty. The question now is where the Cardinals will look to improve on the offensive line.

According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, the Cardinals’ No. 1 target is free agent left tackle Branden Albert. If they’re not able to acquire the sought-after Albert, the Cardinals’ Plan B would be guard/tackle Rodger Saffold. Either Albert or Saffold would improve the Cardinals’ offensive line.

Colledge will become a free agent as soon as his release from the Cardinals is official, and one place where he could find a job is Miami, as he previously played for coach Joe Philbin in Green Bay. Saffold handled his departure from Arizona with class, and the Dolphins could use a classy veteran on their offensive line.

......I'd rather pay the extra 2-3 million and get Monroe if we're going "all in" on a LT



Players of Monroes' caliber rarely ever hit the open market....jmho
 
Although, theres like a little voice in my head thats whispering, "Veldheer, Veldheer, Veldheer"......I liked him ever since he came out of Hillsdale


Veldheer and Saffold would be an AWESOME combo on the left side!(not to mention cheaper)

that, and sometimes new GM's have to patch up the significant holes the previous GM failed to fill in FA & in the draft.....:crazy:

One thought: Dolphins may be able to give the older Albert less guaranteed money in Year 3 than Monroe.

Albert & Saffold would be expensive combo but Hickey & Philbin don't mind spending in FA (although it hasn't paid off for either in past)

I HATE the cheap route. Know why? whats the old expression? you get what you pay for. Albert is great in pass pro, and more than decent as a run blocker, but the guy is getting up there. Monroe is only 26, and if we
are dishing out big money anyway, why not get the younger, healthier guy who clearly is the better all-round option for a team in a current youth movement. I just hope, at the end of the day, the decision is for the BEST option, and not what will save Ross a few bucks a couple years down the line.

I dont think thats the right mentality to have going in. Who has the best chance to still be on the roster 3-4 years down the line should be the focus...
 
Let's just commit to the OL 100% by signing Monroe at LT, Saffold at G, and Val at RT then draft Martin in round 1

Sounds great. And to take a page from the Redskins and their former top notch line, the Hogs, We could call them the Seals or Seal Team 5. :brewskis:

Unfortunately, this doesn't apply to NFL FA... You don't get bang for your buck when signing these guys during the 1st week of FA... The real bargains are the marginal ones you find later who are scheme fits with some sort of upside...
 
So b/t saffold and Delmas the trainers table will be quite busy...I can get down with saffold though for the right price...some tackle ability there as well and a scheme fit

Hoping Albert goes to zona and we get someone else...too worried about fall off there
