Random thoughts on the backup QB situation:
1. I had the same thought exactly that Vaark had, i.e., that Lazor is asserting himself here and he just doesn't see Devlin as a fit to the new offense. Devlin had plenty of time to show he is an NFL quarterback. We seem to have just been wasting time with him.
2. I like Matt Moore. He's a competitor and a team guy. He is a leader too. He is banged up and I don't know how Lazor feels he will fit. Lazor likes a strict regimen and he wants practice players. Moore is more of a game day, tough hombre, find a way to get it done guy. Lazor may not like the inconsistency in approach with Moore, so who knows. I'd keep Moore if healthy and has any kind of reasonable aptitude for the offense.
3. I am not comfortable with Quinn as a number 2. He hasn't been here all offseason. Skill-wise, I have thought he was a classic stiff. Slow reads, slow progession, slow release, mediocre arm, etc. Too many teams have had a good look at him and he was on the street. No qb coach, offensive coordinator, or head coach that he has been with in the past has clamored to have him because they like him or trust him. He is what he is at this point, unless there is some gigantic shock. If Tannehill goes down, are we really trotting Quinn out there for game duty? I think you keep Moore.
4. Miami will need to draft a legit young qb soon. Like a 3rd or 4th rounder. It's tough because this team has had so many holes. But a developmental qb is important. Someone who can play.
5. I still have no idea why Zak Taylor is here. He climbed the corporate ladder too fast. We just read about how Lazor is changing Tannehill's footwork and Tanne thinks he will get better accuracy accordingly. Devlin didn't get there. Where was Taylor in all of this? What the heck is Taylor doing besides being a nepotism beneficiary?
