Dolphins second wave of OTA's begin today- media updates

Grimes is an absolute beast, there is no chance he's regressing and riding off into the sunset with a fat wallet. If Grimes is getting destroyed I would say that is more a reflection on Wallace and Tannehill than Grimes. Maybe our offense really can go from bottom 5 to top 5 in one fell swoop. If Tannehill is the real deal and makes that jump in production that typically happens with franchise QBs in their third year, don't rule it out.

If you ever needed reason to be excited as a Dolphins fan over the past two decades the time is right now.

-we may have a franchise QB poised to break records
-we have a good head coach, he may be great
-we have some talent on both sides of the ball, we have some depth, and if some of the additions from the past two years work out we may have an extremely deep roster
-we may have an electric fast paced offense that could make us virtually unbeatable in the heat and humidity of South Florida

If it all works out "I'm talkin' SuperBowl"
"Miami Dolphins, Miami Dolphins, Miami Dolphins number one..."

If delmas manages to make it as far as game one lol

Grimes is a savvy veteran one year removed from a serious injury. The last thing he is going to do is risk injuring himself in an OTA that is meaningless for him.

That doesn't mean he isn't trying hard, it just means that he may not be pushing the envelope like he would when his body is in full football-shape and the reps really matter.

OTA's are about learning where to be and creating muscle memory through reps. Grimes already proved he has those things. At his age getting to the start of the season fully healthy is the number one goal.

Let's not start throwing out excuses for the guy just because he had a poor practice. He had a bad practice. It is what it is.

Bingo. All excellent points.

At this stage, all of these rookie OL are going to be overloaded mentally and making a ton of mistakes technique-wise. It is definitely preferable to have them surrounded by guys using proper technique to help the rookies learn. It would be foolish to put two rookies next to one another just yet.

This isn't a first team vs. second team thing. It is a matter of surrounding one rookie with veterans in team A, and surrounding the other rookie with veterans in team B.

By the time the 2nd preseason game comes around, we will see the starting OL played as a unit. But, until then these guys need to learn technique focusing on fundamentals. That doesn't require arm length, leg drive, or lateral quickness.

So, every time air-head Omar is shocked by Garner at LT or Thomas at LG, just realize that more than one person is being trained. Garner may be helping Turner learn LG. Brenner may be helping Smith learn RG. Thomas is learning from Albert and Pouncey ... but it doesn't mean Thomas has an inside track to start ... it just means Turner needs more teaching at this point, which is understandable.

Agree on having a vet to help mentor on fundamentals. At the same time all on the OL are students fon Benton's new ZBS, and they, as well as the entire O are the same for Lazor's new O.

If Miami added two solid middle linebackers, one vet and one youngster, to its current corp of outside backers consisting of Ellerbee, Wheeler, Misi, Jenkins and Tripp that group wouldn't look too bad. I know the plan is to try Misi and Tripp inside, but I think they're both better suited outside.

The ZBS is not new to most of these players...the basic concepts are going to be the same from one team to the next...

Why would you say they're better outside? This is the first time Misi is experimenting as an ILB right? I say yes experiment as much as possible because there's no way in hell I want the same set-up that started for us last year!

Delmas will be fine and is the best FS this team has had in a long long time. Man is he great!
WELCOME BACK TO MIAMI DELMA!

Omar Kelly ‏@OmarKelly · 20s
Beautifully placed 20-yard floater to Mike Wallace from Tannehill for a TD. Showed touch.

Ha yeah, just when you thought Omar might lighten up on RT a bit...he does this:

Omar Kelly ‏@OmarKelly · 33s
Before the Tannehill to Wallace TD pass Tannehill missed him in middle of field. Delmas warns "you gonna get him killed."

And yeah, this intentionally omitted detail is just so professional:

Omar Kelly ‏@OmarKelly · 44s
Jimmy Wilson just picked off a Ryan Tannehill pass in the end zone, returned it for 30 yards.

James Walker ‏@JamesWalkerNFL · 41s
Jimmy Wilson gets the first pick of the day off QB Ryan Tannehill. The ball was dropped, not the QBs fault. #DolphinsOTAs

Sounds like he was having a lil temper tantrum over Grimes too. How does he keep a job?

It's OTAs, but hard not to get excited about Wallace's potential this year.

While basic concepts may be the same, the scheme is different, somewhat similar to a WCO. I have read where Benton is only going to bring some of what he did in Houston to Miami, and the same for Lazor as to what was done in Philly. It is going to be a learning process.

Couple of things.

First I love hearing about the different formations and moving Wallace around more. Desean Jackson had a career year last year in a similar role. Tight end screens, Moreno and Miller in the same backfield, double reverse, lots of motioning, its definitely going to be a more exciting brand of offense then we saw under Mike Sherman. Also it sounds like Tannehill had a solid day, which is good to hear since he has to be comfortable in this offense more then anyone else.

Dallas Thomas starting ahead of Billy Turner isn't surprising, they are going to make him earn it. James started from day 1 but he didn't really have any competition. I am nervous about the offensive line, we are going to have 3 first time starters or rookies, Smith, Thomas/Turner, and James. Albert and Pouncey are entrenched at their positions.

Secondary is nerve wracking at this point. Hearing Grimes struggle 1 day in practice isn't that big of a deal. I wasn't a fan of the Finnegan signing, I thought there were better options out there, but it is nice to see him taking a leadership role on this team, something we desperately need. Its nice to hear about him taking young players like Taylor under his wing.

Koa Misi looks like he might stick at ILB, they really don't want to play Ellerbe at the position again this year. Ellerbe went a little overlooked last year at how bad he was, just because Phillip Wheeler was so god awful. I'm not sure yet if Misi can handle all the responsibilities of being an ILB, but at this point it looks like its the way the team is leaning.

I wish every thread didnt end up being a 'let's bash Omar' thread. We get it! No one likes him.
