Dolphins Secret Superstar in 2014?

Dion jordan is going to have a monster year and you can take that to the bank

PFF has the Dolphins today, and their pick is Matthews. Good read.

from the article:

"At just under $600k per year, Matthews’ salary is very team-friendly. Should the Dolphins retain Gibson, Wallace, and Hartline, Matthews should still have a place cemented on the roster thanks to his production and the low cost of keeping him. Even if he’s forced into a diminished role on the offense, he made a positive contribution to the team, something most seventh-round picks can’t claim. Snaps may be very hard to come by, so it will be up to Matthews to seize every opportunity if he’s to hope for more playing time.

Whether or not Matthews is in the Dolphins’ long-term plans may not be up to him. They currently have three receivers on the roster signed through 2017 and that’s not counting the deal Landry will sign in the upcoming months. With so much money committed to the position, it’s hard to envision Miami looking to shell over more to Matthews when he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2016 without first releasing some of the high-priced wideouts ahead of him on the depth chart. It will be interesting to see whether Matthews can take that next step and break into the starting role, but he certainly has his work cut out for him."

Doesn't sound like a super star to me just a good value for a 7th rounder. I hope he has a good year but his up side is no where near that of my pick Jordan.

To win, we need more than our acorns to pan out.

The term "Superstar" is overstated but, the more I think about it, I believe "Secret" is the key to what PFF was looking for in players nothig was expected from, cheap low round picks. Matthews, as a 7th rounder fits right in. For us, Clay (6th round) is a perfect example last year, and Jones (5th round) the year before.

That said, I really liked the choices made here. I did not realize there were so many good ones. Let's hope they ALL work out.

Agreed, for me the spirit of this speculation is unexpected outstanding performance - of which Clay is the current poster-boy. Given that, I know, "fat chance" but I'd love to see it turn out to be Mike Gillislee for a number of reasons. Second best unexpected star possibility for the team's benefit IMO would be Dion Sims. Given the normal expectations, if either of these guys break through when virtually written-off, it infers a lot about the outcome for this season's team. Yes Taylor is an obvious choice, but we should have higher expectations for a second round draft pick who only disappointed due to injury last season :idk:

This, and a guy like Brenner would also fit right in.

My first thought was either Landry or Will Davis. Now Davis is probably not going to be the player who flashed before real games last year, but he showed ball skills that at least he has the potential to use in games, and if Taylor covers better than Davis but Davis gets 6 picks, people will remember Davis.

Good lord PFF....secret superstar and you pick a freaking role player....Reason number 127 as to why everything on that site should be taken with a grain of salt

Yeah, I'm gonna cancell my subscription, and just listen to what you have to say, which in this case is nothing. Why bother to post to say that you have nothing to say? JK/LOL.

PFF is doing a series of articles on a team's secret superstar. The term superstar is overstated but, it is picking one player on each team who will have an impact on the team after having little or none last year because of injury, youth, etc. They have not gotten to the Dolphins yet.

So, we can make our choice, and compare to what they have to say later. Who is your choice?

Candidates would be Jordan, Moreno, Landry, Taylor.

An undrafted guy I think could really surprise is Tyler Larsen...who wouln't shock me if he takes over a guard position.

I think Landry will be sitting most of this season if Gibson is healthy. definitely could be wrong though lol. I think Jordan will have a good year but not truly break out yet. I'm not sure if I can use odrick because he had a good year last season that got him some serious respect around the league. I go with odrick though, if I can. If that's not "legal" then I say rishard Matthews. Idk what it is but this guy just looks fast and dangerous. When he gets it figured out and gets on the same page as tannehill he could really breakout. We shall see.

It seems like you are trying to justify the purchase...

As for saying something...you mean start as many threads as possible hoping it gains enough traction to be worthwhile?
