dolphins sign larry johnson

Does beg the question, why they didn't just sign Ricky back now.

I think that bridge was burned very early. Either by the comments he said at the end of last season, or something internal, but they were far from the same page this offseason. It sucks, cuz I would much rather have Ricky, but we gotta move forward now.

MAn if LJ wa a fraction of his old self we are set...I think we are trying to develop some confidence on offense...reggie started it

Larry Johnson signing= Ireland telling the RBs this:

"I think you guys suck so bad that I'm forced to bring in this washed up woman beater to see if we can get better, because you guys suck." - Jeff Ireland

This one is puzzling - I strongly suspect that if Ricky was never goaded by Sid into badmouthing Tony, there'd be no Larry Johnson being now signed

LJ is obviously a depth signing, but it's not like he has much to leap frog to become Bush's complement. Lex Hilliard and a rookie. Considering how injury prone Bush is and the inexperience of our other options, any RB depth on this team is not far from a chance at carries. Meh, it's just not even a good depth signing. An old, beat jackass. What's the upside? That ****er has always irritated me. I don't want to see him in our sacred uni.

Don't forget his gay slurs as well on twitter that cost him 200k.

Why even bother moving Hilliard to FB? 1. He is not that good as a RB 2. We can roll with 1 FB on the roster why waste a spot on someone who might be able to Block ok? We have Clay, Cut Hilliard and lets moove on.
Chubbs

HILLIARD looked very good in limited time at FB last season. POLITE just misses too many lead-blocks, plain and simple...and "lead-blocking" is "Job One" for FBs in modern NFL football. POLITE's pass-protect was mediocre on his best day. HILLIARD was better, and is better on passes out in the "flat", a place where POLITE looks like he has MS and PARKINSON'S combined. Upgrading at FB is needed. As a footnote, CLAY didn't lead-block too well in college, but actually did much better even as a blocker from the traditional TE position. But, I only saw him a couple of times in college: he actually looks better as an H-Back NOW than he did in college!

MIAMI might keep LJ if he's got ANYTHING left at all. He'd be both "mentor" and "insurance policy" for D THOMAS. MIAMI's HBs would be D THOMAS and LJ for the power HBs, and R BUSH and the winner of the competition between SHEETS/GRIGSBY/WHOEVER for the "scatbacks". HILLIARD is the FB/Emergency Power HB, and CLAY's a H-BACK/TE who seems to have enough size and speed to stretch the field/hit the "seams". LJ's conditon is the key, and I'd leave THAT evaluation to the experts...especially DABOLL: if Coach SPARANO likes LJ, good: if DABOLL does too, that's THAT!!! 1 less problem area...2, actually!

If it's so awful, and you know that we are short-handed in our current RB situation.....who do you feel we should get? He may have impressed during his workout, he may be a perfect fit as a situational guy in our system, and his body is rested and he probably has a chip on his shoulder. I say, "why not"? It's not like it was a make or break deal.

Would you rather go into the season with Kory Sheets? He showed absolutely nothing this training camp or preseason.

i can find someone off someone elses cuts that can offer us more than larry johnson...GUARANTEED...its a waste of time signing...kory sheets no doubt needed to go but to bring in this guy who was washed up years ago is a waste of time...period

Sparano and Co. turning over another fossil, I mean rock. :bobdole:

I told these *******es we shouldve resigned Ricky. There was no point not to. We needed another veteran presence in the backfield.

If you going to carry a rookie and a guy who has been injured a lot as your main 2 guys, you need a versitile veteran who can play any of the 3 downs that can carry it effectively a few times a game, catch the ball out of the backfield, and most importantly pick up blitzes. Thats huge. Ricky is also a guy who can carry the load for a couple games here and there if one of the other 2 gets injured.

Just a moronic move. Now were stuck with Larry Johnson who Im sure will be cut at somepoint. Basically, were left turning over rocks as usual.

Finally some words of wisdom. But according to most on this site, our thoughts are just that of "haters".

It's not a negative thing, IMO. It's just like, whatever. The guy is done.

The move tells us more about how unhappy the team is with its RBs than anything else.

Sparano himself said Johnson is no lock to make the team. They didn't sign the guy to improve their record by 5 wins
