Shelley Smith - G - Dolphins
Dolphins agreed to terms with OG Shelley Smith, formerly of the Rams, on a two-year, $5.5 million contract.
The deal includes $1.5 million guaranteed. It's a nice signing for a team moving on from the Richie Incognito/John Jerry "era," though Smith has made only eight career starts. Smith is a road grader in the run game, but needs to improve as a pass blocker. Going on 27, he'll get every opportunity to earn a starting job.

Is this guy any good? if so why didn't the Rams resign him? If he is good I can say I honestly believe this team is now as good or slightly better than last years team just 1 week into FA with the draft still ahead......feeling better each day about this team.......

Smith is a very good run blocker but not so good in pass protection. He played behind Safford and took over at RG when Safford was out or moved to LT to replace Long.

Since start of FA Tuesday, Fins 4 for 4 in signing players who visited(Albert-who agreed before); Mitchell, Finnegan; now Shelley Smith.

Well, I wanted a guard and we got one so I'm happy about that. Not sure how good he'll be since he only started 2 games last year but seems to fit th system and it's not costing much. Still hope we get one more lineman that can start right away before the draft.
