well there's a body for camp but that contract says that he's not a guaranteed starter...which is what it should be...come to camp and compete...and work on that pass pro
He will be a starter when he earns it.......a lot of upside here.

Why are people so excited about the Fins signing a BACK-UP GUARD in Shelley? He was a back-up on a crap team (Rams), and only started 2 games???
Am I missing something? It is depth, and nothing else. He should be a back-up on this team if they add another guard, which they obviously should.
I would ONLY get excited if they signed Mack (can play all positions on line right? But BIG MONEY?) instead. What's the deal on him?

It may be back up money, but it's also the biggest financial commitment among guards.

He was playing behind Roger Saffold who just got a huge deal...they have good pieces on the OL, who cares if they suck? He's appeared in 25 games the last 2 years, starting 8 which obviously isn't idea. What he is is a great fit for the ZBS, a great athlete and an absolute mauler with quality upside. He's easily gotten solid starting guard tools from what I've watched.
Not like this is some huge move, but we needed help so hopefully he is an upgrade
The deal on Mack is that he is said to have visits lined up but as of today has yet to visit any teams.
Shelley was a backup in St Louis because he played behind Safford.

Ok so Mack has a "transition tag" on him. Did not know that. So Cleveland will match any offer for him I bet. Also, he primarily plays C, and he is not big on moving to OT or OG, and the Fins would not want to **** Pouncey. I get it. Nevermind!
Sounds like Shelly has some upside to him, even at 27 yrs old. Miami's run game suffered "Big Time" in 2013 and having Smith, potentially as a mauler in the starting unit should help pave the way for the run game and RB's.
That's why I like this signing a huge upside that can be developed.

I imagine there are tons of reasons. Why is everybody going to play for the Raiders? That has to do with money.

I see an O-Line heavy draft and lost of good competitions come training camp. Shelly wont get handed the starting job but will have more than a fair shot at winning a spot. look for Smith,Garner,Brenner, Thomas, and a couple draft picks play for those 2 starting guard spots. same goes for RT with probably Thomas, Garner, maybe Yeatman, and a draft pick or 2 playing for that spot.
