Dolphins to release DE Merling

Very odd timing considering we just tendered him a week ago, and with the draft coming up...but good riddance.
 
It sounds like Merling was on rocky ground to begin with and the tender was given with the unlikely chance that someone would be willing to give up a draft pick for him. Not attending the voluntary workouts was probably the final nail. Kinda painful to see another failed high draft pick but I applaud them for not tying up a roster spot on someone just because they don’t want to admit a mistake.
 
wasn't this the guy who "lost" a $14,000 earring once at practice? ...still think a player w/ no shame is wearing that to this day.

That was Langford. And the earring was 50,000 :lol: - who brings that stuff to practice!?
 
Released Phillip Merling Mon Morning Does this mean anything?
Does anyone else think this may be a small sign that Dolphins could be going DE in draft???

I hope so.....8th pick needs to be on the field next year......not wait a year and then find out could be waiting a year for someone who as same skill set as a M Moore or C Henne.....

Ironic we drop a Clemson Tiger and could be getting a South Carolina Game**** in Melvin Ingram

Philbin doesn't want low-character goons like Merling on his team.

Now I don't know about his character, but does anyone think Dontari Poe will be around in the 2nd round? Could be a project.
 
I am deeply saddened by this for he created one of my all-time great Dolphin memories by ending the Jets season by intercepting Brett Favre a few years ago. Phins win the division and GIANTS stadium is silenced, well accept for the pockets of 1000's of Dolphins fans that always invade that dump.
 
Just another horrible pick by.......if you ask the Ireland supporters they'll say Parcells made this pick and JI wanted no part of it.......if you ask Ireland's haters they will say he was on board with it.....I guess we'll never know.....lol

prob wasnt going to make it on the team anyway.no big loss other than a 2nd round pick and a few millions

Based on his performance at the combine, most believe he'll be snatched-up somewhere in the 15 - 25 range of the first round. Some even think he'll be gone before our pick at 8. Not much chance he'll be there for us in round 2.
 
I couldn't agree more with the scouts who say Tannehill is a 2nd rounder. Drafting him at #8 is nothing short of stupidity. Ireland should be fired on the spot if Tannehill is our pick.
