This isnt' even an argument. Shula's the Winningest, Best, Whatever you wanna call it. What do you call the person who won the most games EVER?? -THE BEST! Period. I dont care during what time period you were growing up or what team first gave you a taste of Dr. Porkenheimer's Boner Juice. Shula was the greatest coach ever.

You can drop your Pom Poms now.... Just cause he won the most games ever doen't make him the BEST coach ever. Many coaches would have won just as many had they stayed in coaching as long as Shula did. He was lucky to have the loyalty of Joe Robbie for so many years. Look at how many coaches in today's day and age are fired simply for not getting to the SB often enough, even though they win on a consistent basis. Longevity does not equate to BEST EVER!

the winningest coach...well you need to take a closer look. he played much longer than BB....he was in the NFL much longer than a lot of coaches these days and in his days. that of course could translate to more chances to win games.

Shula was a great head coach....but not the best IMO.

2 losing seasons in 33 years as a coach. Please name one coach in the history of the NFL who can match this. Parcells? NO. Walsh? NO Bellicheck? NO. Gibbs? NO.

What coach has been in the most Superbowls? Shula, 6. 1st Coach to take 2 different franchises to the big dance. Parcells being the second and only other.

The only Coach to lead his team through a season undefeated, perhaps the greatest coaching achievement in the history of the NFL, with 2 different quarterbacks.


Won in the 70's with one of the greatest ball control rushing attacks ever and won in the 80's with one of the greatest passing attacks in Nfl history.

Arrrrrgh this is frustrating. I admire BB's recent run. Its remarkable and he deserves all the credit in the world, but if we are going to judge BB fairly and as a whole, then we can't ignore his tenure in Cleveland. An abject failure!!!!

Shula may not have gotten as high as B.B.'s recent run (although a strong case can be made he would have and may have surpassed it had the WFL not come along and Arnsparger hadn't left to the Giants) but he never ever ever even came close to the lows of B.B.'s tenure in Cleveland. Doesn't that count for something? Or are we going to just ignore B.B.'s tenure in Cleveland?

Keep your pom poms and the knowledge that Shula was the best to coach.

Coaching doesn't equate to winning, "coaching" is getting the best out of your players, training, educating, and developing; and a man like Shula who coached through 4 different decades certainly got the best out of his players. Remember how many teams passed on Marino and how many people thought the Dolphins were crazy for drafting Griese. Shula is the epitome of coaching regardless how many times they won the SB, his tenure, and not just because of Joe Robbie, proves it. I've been a Finfan for over 32 years and remember the waves of disruption between Robbie and Shula so don't think it was a bed of roses all of the time. Shula won when no one expected he would, ala Woodstrock. Superbowls don't make great players or great coaches (remember a guy named Barry Switzer, he won a SB but he was a joke of a NFL coach). Don Shula is the best coach ever not because of his won-loss record, but because he was a true down & dirty COACH. BB is a what have you done for me lately coach, pissed on the Jets fell into his first SB because of a BS call in the Raiders playoff game. Change that call, change the history of BB. Let me know how great he is in another 25 years, then maybe you can mention him in the same breath as Shula.
