Dorian and Hurricane Preperation

Fill your bathtubs with water just on case you need it, cheap and easy

11 pm advisory has the eye not even making landfall in Florida (or just barely).

Its at 140mph. My guess is this will reach 160+

News continues to get better for South Florida, but this has the potential to be catastrophic for the entire southeast coast if the eye stays over water and slowly moves up the coast.

First forecast offshore. Me liking it.

My friend just left yesterday to his place on Sanibel island..not sure how bad it will be on gulf coast of Florida

See I'm not leaving cuz traffic will be insane. Its not worth it

Well, just looked at the latest and it's looking a bit better for us here in Kissimmee as far as the eye staying away. I'm sure we'll still get some heavy winds and rain tho. They're saying 145 mph winds but hoping that stays out to the ocean. My sister in law works for the county in Daytona so we'll be looking out for that as she's actually supposed to be working the storm....:(

I'm not resting till Monday evening. That thing is so freaking huge!

As usual the Carolinas are wooing the worst of it away from FLA and I expect major damage up both the coast of SC & NC. The NC Outer Banks will be washed into the ocean if it stays just off shore . They barely keep it out of the ocean anyway.
Prayers to everyone...I got a visit from Fran in the 90s and once you have lived through one you know what's about to happen.

Looking better and better. While Dorian has a large cloud cover it is a rather small storm. TS force winds only reach out to 50 miles from the center and hurricane force winds only 25 miles. It is a very strong but a very compact storm and that is not supposed to change.

We should be ok but still that cone of uncertainty hangs over us. There are still a couple of forecast models bringing the hurricane over Florida. One of the worries the NHC has is that while the Euro model (ECMWF) has a curve out some of its members do not. Say what again?
Forecast models like the ECMWF are actual a compromise forecast as well. It has 52 underlying ensemble members. Kinda like: what the official NHC forecast is to the forecast models (a compromise) is the ECMWF to its 52 ensemble members (a compromise).
So while the ECMWF has a curve out some of its members still push Dorian over Florida.
Oh the Chinese doll of hurricane forecasting. :chuckle:

I wouldn't be surprised if it bends out even more.
