The Chiefs wanted a defender in the first? Imagine that. Don't try to take that line of bull you were floating about a trade between 9 and 15 and try to distill it down to you being right about Johnson. Plenty of mocks I saw before draft day had him going that low or lower.

Jimmy....your so full of it....just two days ago....you didn't believe or want the chiefs to take Derrick Johnson....remember....he reminds them of another Derrick? What did you say....I hope not!! I'm also a chiefs fan and I know Derrick Thomas....and Johnson is no Derrick Thomas....is it getting clearer for you now?
That Chiefs fan was correct on everything except the trade...and one can't blame him for that...he didn't control the trade....so just enjoy.

I stand by that, but it has nothing to do with the Chiefs wanting him. Derrick Johnson is absolutely, positively no Derrick Thomas and it enrages me that anybody would ever make that comparison. If you thought that meant I thought the Chiefs weren't considering him, then you read into what I said something that wasn't there. Go back and read it. It was 100% about the comparison.

I posed this question to a few friends of mine who are completely neutral. Two work with me in sports statistical analysis for Nevada sportsbooks and another guy hosts a local radio sports talk show. All 3 gave Miami a B or B+. The consensus favorite pick was Roth at #46. They couldn't believe he hell into the mid-2nd and said Saban's defense depended on a versatile guy who could disrupt off the edge. One guy loved Ronnie Brown and gave the B+. The other two agreed with me Cadillac was the better back and Brown's questionable elusiveness make him anything but a cinch to star in the NFL. I'm not claiming they are the greatest sources, just 3 individual opinions amongst millions.

C-

Brown was an easy pick, Crowder a necessity, BUT to overstock an already great D at the expense of a truly inept O doesn't make sense. And to mindlessly stick to the BPA on a draftboard is no friggin excuse.

Needed some trades

I give Saban a B.

I thought all of the picks were solid, however I felt he should have dealt for some extra picks. Not the huge 1st round swaps everyone was talking about, just a modest trade or two in the 3rd - 5th round area. With the early 4th rounder we could have easily dropped down 10 - 15 slots and picked up a 5th at least.

A great D who was 31st in stopping the run? Wow you have low expectations. Do you realize just how old our D was before this draft.

That run D number is deceptive because it is partially indicative of how bad the run offense was for most of the year, but our D really is old. We have nice young talent on O and added more with our most significant pick. The amount of defensive selections are entirely appropriate. I wouldn't have complained if another one of them had been used on offense, but I also wouldn't have complained if only the 1st pick had been used on offense.

You're right Jaj, "great" was not the right word, but they're solid when healthy and given a shred of hope, and still light years ahead of the O.

I liked everyone that Saban drafted...I just wished we could've traded somewhere for more picks...

Grade: A-

I liked the draft. Most, it not all of them, will probably make the team. Why do I say this?

Brown has a garunteed contract.

2nd and 3rd Round picks usually make it plus both Zgonina and DBo are probably gone so Roth gets in, and we needed an LB so Crowder gets in.

Daniels can play anywhere in the secondary so he'll get in.

Houck loves Alibi. Plus all Alibi needs to do is beat out Tony Pape,Wade Smith, and Taylor Wheatly.

Vickerson might struggle to make the team, but if Zgonina and DBo leave he just has to beat out Mario Monds and some other scrub we picked up midseason.

Honestly Nick had me stratching my head today. But yesterday was great Value, value, value! I have great trust in this organization with Saban at the helm. Overall A-

Good solid picks, but would have liked to see us trade down for our first pick in the fourth to get extra picks. Daniels may have been available later. Maybe nit picking about the trades not knowing what was offered. Grade B to B+. Could be an A if we get an undrafted free agent that makes the team this year and becomes a starter down the road.

Overall at least a B+ but Ronnie Brown is an 'A'. Crowder needs to be healthy to have an impact and we need to see Daniels play slot CB this year at least to give the overall draft an 'A'.

A few years down the line I think Daniels and Poole will be a very good CB tandem. It's just a matter of time, but I don't think Daniels will get much PT this year unless Reggie Howard play's like he did last year. Overall I give the draft B, I wasn't blown away by it, but I think it's a solid start to the Saban era.

OK, so now it's over, what are the strong positions for the next draft. This rebuilding will take more than this one draft.
