During the seattle / san fran game ...the announcer said

Miami, Buf and NYJ have been drafting to try to beat NE for a long time. It's not easy and won't be until #12 retires.
Well said, Junc. Having a Hall of Fame qb and coach is hard to beat.

We did draft to beat the Patriots....then we went ahead and lost to the Bills and Jets when we had the playoffs in our grasp. We are just not an elite team at the moment, and the draft isn't going to make us that. We need Tannehill to turn into a monster, we need a running game of some sort, and we need a defense that won't ***** out after being put in a tough spot.

You've got to be able to run the ball and stop the run. What's the use of beating the Patriots if you can't beat the other teams on your schedule? It is more effective to compete with the elite QB's by keeping them on the sidelines than trying to continually win individual matchups.

..IN THE INTRO "these two teams know each other very well because they have drafted to beat each other." To me that was a very big statement, because i believe that is what Miami needs to do. They need to draft to beat New england, and eventually win the division and who knows be in the superbowl. These two team did exactly the same in three year and they're both playing in back to back sb. Remember when Miami used to get killed by buffalo and they Shula draf in 91-92 basically puts and to that ? Whatever happens to those days ?

The 49ers of old are the classic example. They were not building to win their division though, they were doing what was needed to win the Superbowl and for them that meant the NFC championship game, specifically Dallas. We should be building, drafting to beat the teams in the ACF Championship game. New England and Denver you would have to say. So I agree. But not with focusing on the division.

Oline is the biggest concern, IMO.

Yep what have we done to beat New England or keep up with them? The Patriots drafted great TE's like Gronk and Hernandez, and we do very little to upgrade at this position. We did try to bring in Dustin Keller, but he never made it to the regular season. Maybe we can draft a stud TE some day? We have tried to draft some DE's to get to Brady, but this has been hit or miss and we don't know what Dion Jordan will become. Sounds like Brady wants to play another five years and as long as he is in New England we will probably will be playing for second place, unless we find ways to beat them.

I TOTALLY agree. It is something I harp upon. Make moves to match your division. Miami has not and pays the price each year.
if you can't draft good players, then drafting the right types/positions for your division is not really the immediate issue. I don't care if Bruce Smith is not in our division, I would still draft Richmond Webb. Ireland couldn't find Richmond Webb if Webb was his conjoined twin

I disagree on the statement, the Pats were not the problem, it was the Bills and the Jets, so we need to get good players that can play in our system and coaches to TEACH.

So our entire division is made up of cold weather teams and most playoff games are outside in the cold. You have to be able to run the football. I think the Philbin/GB system that over-emphasizes the passing game hurt our teams chances of success. Run the ball and then work off of play action.

bingo - got to run in the cold months - just have to

brady can't beat you if he doesn't have the ball.

Run the ball. Move the chains. Keep him on the sidelines.

Create your own identity.

Go into draft 'needing' the deepest positions each year and you come away with the best players. Stay away from big FA's and re-sign the players who have already performed for you.
