Eagles interested in Morris

Ricky Williams RB
Ronnie Brown FB
Heath Evans FB
Travis Minor RB/ST
Lamar Gordon RB (till Ricky is back)

Sammy Morris 5th round draft pick (we dont have one now because of Manny Wright)
Dont do it though unless we get a significant pick.

I think the big question is this....

Are we THAT desperate for a lousy 5-7th round pick???...

I don't think so. I think our running game is more important right now. If Brown bombs, and Ricky ends up being "Ricky light", who's going to run the ball???....

Minor is not going to cut it, and Gordon shouldn't even be on the starting roster IMO. Harris is a complete unknown. That leave Morris as our best back-up option in 2005 behind Brwon / Ricky IMO. You seriously want to trade him and risk having someone like Minor or Gordon starting if injuries occur????...

I sure as hell don't....

PHINZ RULE!!!

If both Ronnie and Ricky are hurt by game 8 or so and we are 2-6 I don't care if we had David Boston carry the rock the rest of the year.

If they offered us a 6th rounder for Morris I'd take it.Last year Morris proved that he couldn't get the job done as a real genuine backup runningback. He has durability and speed issues, plus he's still very raw as a runningback.
With a worse line last year then in 2003 when Ricky averaged 3.5 YPC Morris had these following numbers.....

8 Games started with....
132 attempts 532 yards
4.0 YPC
6 Tds
22 catches 124 yards

Average that over a full season and that would be over a 1000 yrs with only 264 carries. Your issue with his speed and rawness are completely made up.

I say we ask for T.O.:)
Why would you want that overrated problem child on this team ? Don't you think we have enough problems.I wouldn't take him if they were GIVING him away for free......Well on second thought...maybe long enought to trade him for a REAL player or a good draft pick.

Last year Morris proved that he couldn't get the job done as a real genuine backup runningback. He has durability and speed issues, plus he's still very raw as a runningback. I would collect the picks for Gordon and Morris, and go to battle with Ronnie, Ricky, Travis Minor, and Kay-Jay Harris. Of course, in the immediate future getting rid of Morris AND Gordon would mean we may need to find one more RB off the waiver wire for the first four games of the season.

Dolphins are happy with Travis Minor as a runner and as a backup kick returner, and Kay-Jay makes plays on special teams and has the power to help out in the red zone. I would dish them both out.

The following is a list of guys who could have been had in the 6th round of the 2005 NFL Draft...

DT Antajj Hawthorne, DT Anthony Bryant, RB Cedric Houston, DE Bill Swancutt, OG Chris Kemoeatu, QB Derek Anderson, OT Rob Pettiti, DE Jovan Haye, and OG Wes Sims.

We got both Yeremiah Bell and Rex Hadnot in the sixth round and both are about to be starters (unless Schulters does some massive improving).

its not about morris the RB, its more about morris the FB... again having to keep 2 FBs on the roster is not a good idea with our system where we barely use a FB, having morris (who as of now is 3rd string ahead of minor and gordon) enables us to keep only evans on the roster as a FB and have an extra spot for that extra LB or another corner, or an extra Dlineman... which is valuable in itself...

i would not get rid of that for a 6th round pick, espeically a philadelphia 6th which would be like a 7th, thats some spielman/wanny stuff right there...

Good post... People must think we need all this RB depth because of the big playoff push we will make this year.
If you dont expect us to be play worth a crap thats one thing, but you dont trade good players for crappy picks because of it.

we can trade Morris and Gordon and we'd still have Brown, Williams, Minor, and Harris if we kept 4 RBs

but then also martin and evans cause we'd need 2 FBs... so thast six roster spots on the RB/FB, when you can cut that to 5, just by keeping morris as opposed to any of hte other players...

versatility, saban loves it and good teams want it...

thats like me saying why keep wes welker hes only the 5th WR, or ed perry hes juts the 3rd TE... no they serve multiple roles and thats important...

Maybe, but Morris aint in Denver, hes stuck behind a make-shift line in Miami, and hasnt proven to anyone that hes capable of running for 1000 yards. You can say "if he were in Denver" all you want, but the bottom line is that his trade value is next to nothing.
Again I differ. His trade value might be lower simply because of the number of backs in Miami, but not because of his talent.

No one is saying he is a star, just that he has proven to be a capable NFL runner, maybe not starter. The only thing that might hinder him talent wise is can he stay healthy for 16 games getting 20 carries, which no team would be asking him to do.

However, his versatility is worth the 5th.

How about Mike McMahon straight up for Morris?? Did anyone see him Saturday night against the Ravens?? The guy has some wheels!! I was hoping we could have landed him in the off season but the Eagles beat us to it.

There is nothing lousy about a 5th Rd pick, especially for a player that cost you nothing to have on your team & who will not play this year unless injuries destroy them, who is also in the last year of his deal & will be looking elsewhere for playing time next year.

Morris is not that valuable to Miami this year.

we need whatever picks we can get from a guy that will not see much playing time if any fb is not a position that will win us games this year

As for Morris as a fullback, IMO Lorenzo Diamond is more valuable. Morris plays tailback that can play FB in a pinch, Diamond plays TE but is noted as a good H-Back so they are already in similar positions and Diamond is the more valuable player if you ask me.

As for the YPC argument, if you follow football and football statistics you come to realize that yards per carry tell you LESS than half the story. It would take someone who is very "special" to believe that just because a guy got 3.8 ypc on limited carries, that must mean he would have gotten 3.8 ypc on a ton of carries.

You can evaluate running backs at a base level over the LONG TERM by statistics, but in the short term it just does not go very far or tell a very convincing story. It is almost like evaluating a defensive tackle by how many tackles he had.

And when BLITZKRIEG asks:

Are we THAT desperate for a lousy 5-7th round pick???...

I would turn around and ask:

Are we THAT desperate for a lousy backup running back who likely would only play one more year for us?

but Welker is emerging as a #4 WR and who cares about losing Morris if we can get a 3rd or 4th rounder, we are not currently only looking for versatility, we need well-rounded talent at every position before we can start looking for versatility
