Eagles interested in Morris

You guys crack me up...Morris is a 5th rounder at best.

Travis Henry went for a 3rd, he's worlds better than Morris. Only thing Morris has him beat in is Special Teams, but no one in their right mind will give up anything higher than a 5th for a career back-up and special teams player.

If any team offered a 5th or 6th for Morris he is gone in a heartbeat. Wanny doesn't have an NFL gig right now so I see no scenario in which a 4th or better get mentioned..

I would be happy to go into this season with these backs

RB - Brown, Ricky, Gordon, Minor

FB - Evans, Martin

but for us, this year i dont think a 5th rounder would get him from us... gordon sure, but morris holds up 2 positions on our team and that extra roster spot he frees up is real valuable in itself... not to mention the ricky being gone for the first 4 weeks...

to US, hes more valuable then some 5th round pick next year...

We were 4-12 last year and not going to the superbowl this year. We drafted a RB #2 overall. Our starting Pro Bowl RB from 2 years ago has returned and looks pretty decent for all the time off. We still have Travis Minor. Now we need to keep Sammy Morris as a security blanket because he had 523 yards and 4.0 avg last year. Maybe we should have kept Fielder to be 3rd string QB.

Morris averaged 4 yards a carry behind the worst OL in the NFL in 2004. Who else could have managed that amazing accomplishment???...Not Minor, and certainly not Gordon. Maybe Brown and Ricky can, maybe not. We know that Morris can....

Has our OL improved enough to test Browns durability, and Ricky's fear of taking on too many hits???....Not yet IMO. Brown may end up struggling, and Ricky may not do anything. Thus far in pre-season he's running very hesitant, and doesn't look very comfortable behind the OL....

Morris is all work and no BS. He comes to play every week, and has a great attitude towards what he's doing. Ricky is a headcase with no desire to be great anyomore, and Brown is simply an unproven player....

I say it's a risk trading Morris at this time. Unless we are well compensated ofcourse. Like a 3rd rounder or something, otherwise tell the Birdz to take the train...

PHINZ RULE!!!

If we get more than a seventh round pick for Morris, I will be ecstatic. People talking about receving a second, third or even fourth round pick are out of touch with relaity, in my humble opinion.

Lets put things into proper perspective:

Going rate for a 2nd round pick: Shaun Alexander & Edgerrin James - Franchise backs. Enough said.

Going rate for a 3rd round pick: Travis Henry - pro bowler, 1000 yard back coming off injury

Going rate for a 4th round pick: Rueben Droughns - Overachiever who still ran for 1240 yards last year

Going rate for a 5th round pick: Lorenzo Neal - All-pro fullback and maybe the best lead blocker in the entire league.

Going rate for a 6th round pick: Karim Abdul Jabbar - Ok, this may not be the "going rate" anymore, but you get the idea. Former 1000 yard back who was much worse than his TD numbers indicated. Never averaged more than 3.6 yards per season.

Going rate for a 7th round pick: Aveion Cason - A journeyman RB that Dallas acquired from Detroit. Career backup.

If I had to catalog Sammy Morris - a journeyman RB with a 3.8 yard lifetime average and a career high of only 523 yards - I would put him as a VERY late sixth round pick, or more reasonably, a seventh round pick at best. Hes more Aveoin Cason than he is Karim (although maybe thats a good thing).

We can carry and extra RB while Ricky is suspened so we have an extra spot till after week 4 and can cut/trade someone then. I can see if we knew we were a playoff team but Morris won't start at either spot unless we have some injuries.

Are you trying to tell me that because a back-up can play special teams he's more valuable than a 5th for your team? Do you know how many players do that exact same thing. (To be fair, not at the level Morris plays on special teams, he was our ST captain when he was with us - too bad our STs SUCKED when he was here)

So you wouldn't be happy with a backfield of Ronnie, Wicky, Gordon, and Harris?

He is gone after this year. Why not get what you can get for him?

Do you think he will even see the ball this year with Brown & RW in front of him?

If you can get a 5th for him, then jump on it, because come draft day 2006 the pick might prove more valuable than Morris being on the team in 2005.

exactly, depth, which is something saban wants and says the team needs, so hes gonna get rid of a guy who gives us good depth at 2 positions for a 6th round pick? i doubt it...

Great Post, now the question is Morris worth more this year than say a 6th or 7th round pick next year. I say bring on the extra pick with all the depth we got at RB.

How many 7th round RB's turn out to be as productive or as versitile as S. Morris???....

PLEASE. Getting a player like Morris for a mere 7th round pick would be a steal for Philly. NO WAY IN HELL would I trade him for something that low, especially being this close to the start of the season....

PHINZ RULE!!!

Disagree. Put Morris in Denver last year & he easily does as good or better than Droughns. Morris is worth a 5th at worst. Maybe even a conditional 5th.

Agree

Left off Clinton Portis who went for something higher than a 2nd round pick.
