Edds is a Patriot

No worries. Edds WAS badly injured though, I don't have to be a doc to know that, and he wasn't mobile as an LB before the injury, he was a good instinct player.

Fins gave him a chance post-op to see if he was worth gambling on. Like Brophy says LB is one position history tells us will struggle to recover from any ACL surgery and Edds had a complete rupture. That's not conjecture, that's fact.

Do you make up your facts as you go along? EDDS is a "coverage" LB: that's all we've heard from the Geniuses for a long time. He's coming off of a torn ACL. The usual recovery period is 18 Months for what EDDS had, and so stupid IRELAND and SPARANO figured "maybe the P/S", the same mistake those 2 boneheads made w/SPEARS, who was an OLB w/speed at 6'5"/239. The only difference is that SPEARS got claimed a little sooner (CLEVELAND vs N.E.). Fools like SPARANO never learn. So, now we'll be seeing EDDS first-hand, fully recovered by the 6th game, more or less...and wearing a PATRIOTS uniform.

I was shocked, again I am not upset about the Pats picking him up. Its the philosophy of " Oh well our 4th rounder didnt start for me right away lets cut him" that drives me nuts. If we were an 11-5 team i would give them the benfit of the doubt. But if your cutting 4th round draft picks coming from a back to back 7-9 regime there is a bigger problem to be had.
Chubbs

Comment doesn't hold water. Patriots released 2nd rd pick Darius Butler to make room for Edds. However Edds clearly outplayed Spitler. He's faster, more reliable and quicker to the ball. He's a player you can count on. Big mistake Ireland! Don't release Moore or Belichick will grab him and dump Ochocinco.

Everytime I think that this regime is getting better, they pull another stupid move out of their a*!.
I will never understand why they kept Spitler and let Edds go.:hsmash:

While I am not a fan of this decision I do realize that we do not know what the circumstances of them going this route was. For all we know Edd's knee might be causing him problems. Maybe they thought that they could stash him for another year because of the knee injury and it back fired on them. There are lots of things that we don't know. But since he was not, nor was he ever going to be a starter for us it is silly to overreact....

Here is the best assessment on the Edds situation:

OmarKelly RT @dcnr226: AJ Edds to the Patriots is SICKENING» No. It's gangsta.

That is the in depth stuff you get from OKelly

I wasn't overly impressed with what Edds did in pre-season and apparently he wasnt overly impressive in training camp either. I was under the impression Edds was a "small safety" type who could lock down TE's and RB's but nothing about him stood out to me in the preseason games. Granted, I dont have access to a coach tape and you can only see so much of what a LB does from the tv but I dont see this as a big deal. Edds likely would never have started for the Dolphins, the problem I think most people have is Spitler made it over him. Nonetheless, this isnt a move that I or most rational Dolphin fans are going to lose sleep over. P.S. the fact Rob Ninkovich is starting for the Patriots and the fact they were willing to drop Butler for Edds shows that the Patriots defense has holes and their drafting is pretty abysmal considering all the picks they get.
Regardless of fact, the **** warmers of the Patriots aka the media will continue to hail every Patriot move. While Im on the subject, why the hell do people on here and in the media all of a sudden talk about Haynesworth like the guys a stud? Had he gone to say the Bills he'd be a guy who hasnt done anything since cashing in and the laziest player in the league but since he' s a Patriot, Dolphins fans and the media act like its a TREMENDOUS move.

it sucks that they missed on Butler and Tate but for the most part the 2009 draft was pretty good. a franchise tackle, a starting safety with tons of upside and several solid reserve players like Pryor, Hoyer and even Edelman is far from a "dismal" draft. they also traded picks for picks in 2010 that turned into Gronkowski and Spikes.

it's not so much that they got Haynesworth but how they got him for vitually nothing that has the media praising the move.

This is because Beli know how to develop talent and has a staff that understands that unlike the folks in south florida. You can dispute that, but he proof is there in the mediocrity.

Was Bellicheat standing behind you while you typed that?

How long have you been watching Moobie man? Honest question.

Care to speculate why they got him for nothing? Any guesses? Don't over-think this one bud.

considering the pats LB suck this is a good pick up for them, he will add depth and information on how Nolan wants to attack Brady.....Belicheat would be smart to keep him around until he is healthy he could help them.......

I find it funny people are saying edds is badly injured
yet he was still able to get a sack and a tackle for a loss
and lead the dolphins in tackles during the preseason..
Imagine when he gets more healthy?

Mark it down edds will be a patriot for a long time..
The Homer crusaders are trying to justify this
saying spitler was the obvious keeper is ludicrous.

THIS IS NOT A KNOCK OR SARCASM IN ANYWAY, I AM BEING SERIOUS.

This question has been posed since his release, but im just going to ask it again to see if anyone answers this time. This is in response to the stat monsters that are blind to everything but the aforementioned. If anyone has maybe collected snaps from this kid, hopefully you could answer this for me.

How many of Edds tackles were made after his assignment had already caught the ball?

Considering he was hailed as Zach Thomas V2.0, thats not exaggeration its fact, his name was actually thrown around with the all time Dolphin great. His "natural coverage" skills should've allowed him to blanket 2nd, 3rd or 4th string TE's/ HB's without a hitch. Since I didnt pay too much attention to him, I havent the slightest idea how he did. I just want to try and understand why he is such a commodity already.

what's there to overthink? he was an *** in washington and got traded for it. that doesn't change the fact that when he applied himselfhe was one of the best defensive players in the game. getting him for a 5th round pick TWO drafts from now is well worth the risk. If he sucks or acts like he did in DC he gets cut and the Pats won't be able to draft a backup safety 2 years from now. no big loss. If he plays up to his talent and buys into the team then the Patriots get an impact player for nothing. I don't think he's going to the Pro Bowl or anything, but so far he's said and done all the right things. this isn't "in Bill I trust" blind faith, this is a smart football decision.
