Egnew: How long will he survive under a new GM

I would be worried about Philbin. These idiots had Egnew used as a fullback, including the play we got nailed for a safety against the Bucs. And even after that, they continued to use him that way in other games.

I just can't shake the image of that dumb look he had on his face, in the meetings on Hard Knocks!

No...the classic "dumb look" was Vontae Davis...

It is common knowledge that the pick of Egnew was all Philbin. You can't hang this one on the ghost of Ireland.

Of course his blocking improved, there was only one way it could go. He's still a stiff TE that can't get any separation. Time to move on.

I love how people act like his blocking improved. If you are the worst blocking TE and u then go to the 69th worst blocking TE that's considered improvement. He still is a horrible blocker

If Ireland wasn't supportive he shouldn't have sent the draft pick in. As GM he can't just by-pass responsibility so easily. (Well I wanted X but if Egnew doesn't work out, then it's all on you). Out of interest RayStinkle - How do you know that Egnew was an all Philbin selection? Were you in the room? Did Jeff Ireland leak this information to Mando and Beasley in a bid to denigrate Philbin?

So, whatever b.s. Omar Kelly writes is now "common knowledge." There's more "common knowledge" in an average Youtube comment than anything that guy writes.

Speaking of YouTube comments, this comment from a Yahoo story today was making the rounds:

I've got to laugh at anyone who thinks that Egnew was a Philbin pick. Philbin loves "guys who move like a football player", regardless of whether they're slow or too short or any of that. He's the one who wanted to get rid of Clyde Gates and his 3.2 40 time. Meanwhile Ireland loves the triangle numbers guys, like that derpy "as uuuuegh" accountant. Guess which category Egnew fits into?

People always talk about Youtube comments, but there is nothing funnier/crazier than what you can find in the yahoo section, mainly because you know a lot of them are true believers rather than the trolls you find on Youtube.

Egnew will last as long as his performance dictates. If he has improved to the point he can contribute then he'll be kept. If he doesn't then he's gone. Why would a GM come in planning to cut a guy who doesn't cost much before giving him a chance to perform? Unless there is some off field shenanigans he doesn't.

We need an O-Coordinator who knows how to maximize the talent of everyone for one thing. And yes I hope we get a GM who hits some home runs. God knows Ireland struck out too many damn times.

Now that Ireland is gone, how long will Egnew survive before he is cut? The only reason he was on the team last year is that Ireland could not afford to publicly admit that he had missed on another third round pick.

i'm pretty sure that the new gm will be "buying the groceries," but since he will not be working with them day to day when OTA's start (like the coaches), he won't be making any decisions about who stays and who goes based on performance.

if philbin didn't want egnew on last year's roster, i'm also pretty sure he would have been gone regardless of what ireland wanted.

I thought Egnew did well last season. Did a lot of things. He is certainly worth keeping over Sims, who's done nothing, and is not as athletic and versatile as Egnew. If we get Ebron, Amaro, Seferian, Sims should go, not Egnew.

Sims: 1-handed game winning td; Egnew: 0... and he blocks for sh#t. can't wait for a 'real evaluator' to go thru this roster, cut heads and get us some players... cuz the cupboard's bare!

New GM won't do anything with Egnew, Egnew will be on the roster for the preseason in which then Philbin evaluates him to see if any improvement has been made. All joking aside in 2011 he was one of the top tight ends in the nation for the Mizzou... so there is talent there but this offseason is make or break... And his fate might be decided earlier than that if Ebron is there at #19.
