[h=3]13. Miami Dolphins[/h]Miami had some obvious problems ending the 2013 season, and to its credit the team has aggressively tried to fix them before the next season rolls around.

Branden Albert coming in at left tackle represents a 19.5-point swing in PFF grading for pass protection towards the green, with Albert surrendering less than half the total pressure Bryant McKinnie did this past season. Ja'Wuan James was seen by many as a reach in the first round -- he was Todd McShay's ninth-graded offensive lineman with a second-round grade -- but he does address a clear need, and as McShay points out has "very good natural tools as a pass protector."
This bolstering of the pass protection is key for the team, as Ryan Tannehill's passer rating dropped almost 50 points from 94.2 to 46.3 when he felt pressure in 2013. The team added some impressive depth in free agency, including Earl Mitchell on the defensive line and Louis Delmas in the secondary.
By the numbers: The right side of the offensive line is a question mark, but otherwise eight members of the projected starting lineup (66.7 percent) rank as good starters or better. There are more question marks on the defense, where 50 percent of the unit is graded as average or worse.

thanks for posting this. i agree with the ratings for the most part except vernon is better than a below average starter to me. i would also swap the ratings on jones / delmas at safety. jones is more of the average-type and delmas slightly above average because he has made more plays. ellerbe could also be argued as an average starter.

More throwing crap against the wall to see what sticks. ESPN has become so freakin lazy it's not even funny. They should stick to drama and leave sports alone...drama is what they do best.

Not once has Dallas Thomas been reported as taking snaps at RG, he's been the starting LG since the first OTA session. Courtland Finnegan has been the starting CB opposite Brent Grimes since the first OTA as well, not the slot CB and Miller, much to everyone's surprise, has been the starting RB not Moreno.

Quick insight on ESPN ... they list 8 of 11 starters as 66.7% ... Well 8 of 12 is 66.6% (repeating of course ... hey, where's Leeroy?) So maybe they think offenses start 12 guys ... who knows.

Sent from my phone, so please forgive any typos.

it's pro football focus not espn.

These are different rankings than what PFF had listed (previous poster put up PFF rankings on seperate thread).

Side note, it's ridiculous that both ESPN and PFF do not list Pouncey as a Elite or at the very least "High Caliber" starter.

it says:

At Pro Football Focus we run position rankings and have done unit group rankings in the past, but here we're going to do something a little more in-depth coming out of the draft -- ranking entire rosters.

We got together PFF's analysts and composed a ranking of each team's roster using our grading, data and football knowledge for added context.

Yet all the links point to ESPN and the only draft analyst mentioned is Todd McShay...who works for ESPN. Hmm....

clearly you guys didn't read the intro.

We got together PFF's analysts and composed a ranking of each team's roster using our grading, data and football knowledge for added context. Along with each team's ranking we have color-coded the projected starters -- blue for the elite players through to red for the poorest (you can see the color key in the chart at right -- the more blues and greens you have, the better, while a lot of oranges and reds are bad news).

For our starting units we have gone 12 players deep to reflect the base and nickel/third down sets from both sides of the ball.

Here you have it: Our 1-32 ranking of every roster in the NFL. The team at the top is no surprise, although there are plenty in the top 10 and further down the list.

they partnered w/ espn to put it on the site but it is a PFF creation. either way it's all just boring offseason nonsense to give us something to talk about.

Seeing Vernon the same color as wheeler makes no sense to me.

Yeah, that part raised a flag for me. Not sure how Vernon, who had 11.5 sacks last season, is considered a "below average starter". At worst he is an average starter or slightly above average. I know he had success being opposite Wake, but 11.5 sacks is not something you just easily dismiss.

Though having the 13th overall ranked roster seems pretty good to me. Patriots have the 6th, the Bills have the 20th and the Jets have the 23rd.

He should be an average starter. They knocked him down cause he rated poorly against the run but he was above average as a pass rusher...seems to me that should make him average not below average.

The guy who wrote the articles is Sam Monson, who is one of the lead PFF guys. ESPN and PFF jointly put out the articles.
