ESPN's fetish with Roger Clemens disgusts me..

[FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica] ESPN is working to televise all of Roger Clemens' minor-league starts, Newsday has learned, and an official announcement could come as soon as Tuesday.

Clemens, who re-signed with the Yankees on May 6, is scheduled to make his first minor-league start Friday night for Class A Tampa. From there, he is tentatively scheduled to pitch for Double-A Trenton on Wednesday, May 23. Clemens could be ready to join the Yankees at that point, or he could need more time.[/FONT]

Seriously, wtf? Sportscenter is basically a glorified "we love Roger" segment when he pitches, and they played his minor league games last year..They interrupted an entire hour of sportscenter to show them..

He's going to pitch 3 innings...3 minor league innings....do we really need to see this?

You may or may not have caught John Kruk’s act on Baseball Tonight last week. In a Q/A session with the other hosts, Kruk answered “the Pirates†when asked “who will be leading the NL Central at the end of the month?†Whatever, just another ESPN guy trying to look smart if it actually comes true. Big deal, right? Wrong. A couple days later, Kruky was on “The D-List†radio show here in Madison (it might also be on in Milwaukee, not sure) to discuss his pick. Kruk admitted that he really wanted to pick Milwaukee as his answer. Apparently, the ESPN brass tried to stiff arm him into saying he thought the Yankees would be leading the AL East by June. Kruk refused, so they made him make one bold selection, thus the Pirates pick. And this was all admitted on the radio by Kruk!

You can’t tell me this doesn’t happen all the time. Sure, stirring up the pot for ratings sake is good for business. But why have ex players and coaches on if they can’t say what they really believe? Why not just have a bunch of 3 Wingos and John Andersons on there and say a bunch of nonsense? I grew up watching ESPN about 23 hours of the day, now I would rather slam my johnson with a sledgehammer than watch one hour of BooYahCenter. Bringing back Harold Reynolds would help…even if he likes to make inappropriate hugs at local Outback Steakhouses…..allegedly.

If people weren't going to watch would they air it? I don't like hearing about Dice-K and the Red Sox or Clemens and the Yankees every day. Though that's what most people want to see, I guess. I don't understand how people watch guys playing poker on tv, though it's on so I guess people watch.

They televised his games last year when he was making a return to the 'Stros. Nothing makes me happier than to see the Red Sox and Yankees fail because they're all that seems to matter in regards to baseball with the national media. Though i'm guessing the ratings suggest that also.
 
It's ESPN, it's what they do. Look at the hard-on they were having for Bobby Knight when he broke that win record, no one really cared but them.

Yep. Same thing with Bonds last year. Every poll told ESPN that the world was overwhelmingly tired of Bonds, yet they couldn't help themselves.
 
I don't mind, since it is a sports televison station.
 
ESPN has like 5 or 6 stations. Airing a Roger Clemens start on one of them is no big deal. They need programing to fill up those stations!! And especially since he will go down as maybe one of the 5 greatest pitchers of all time
 
espnews is like a religon. Hasnt left that channel in two weeks, and it only leaves it for porn. ONLY porn.

I agree with you. I'm sure some would say that if you didnt like it then dont watch it. While that is true, why should anyone have to avoid a channel?

ESPN is all about the Red Sox and Yankees. Lakers, sometimes Cubs, Patriots, Cowboys, NY Giants, etc...

Then they're always about TO or Chad Johnson.

Same old stuff man. If you arent used to it now, you will be soon

:refuse:Sacrilege. The reason people watch it is because it is the only sport (ok, it's not a sport, but everyone calls it a sport now) where you can play against the best in the world and have a chance, so people like to dream.
 
Example: Highlights last night I watched - Rangers at Devil Rays.

ONLY highlight shown was Sosa's HR, like no. 597 of his career. Thinking wow he'll get to 600 soon.

Score? Tampa Bay won 11-6.

Wow. Never would've known that by just one highlight of the other team
 
That is why ESPN deportes is better, since they have to cover all the soccer leagues in the world, plus latin american baseball, and basketball, then they tend to have way more highlights, and way less dumb moments.
 
when roger signed with the yankees they covered that story for 25 minutes of the sportscenter. This was the day after the merryweather / de la hoya fight, which they gave one and a half minutes too.
