1. Ben Tate, RB, Houston Texans

Why: Tate is the top projected running back in free agency who is entering his prime, and Miami's running game was ranked 26th last season. Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas proved in 2013 that neither was starting material. Miller is better with fewer carries as a change-of-pace back. Thomas is entering the final year of his contract and is mostly a bust as a former second-round pick. Tate is a running back who can carry the load in Bill Lazor's new West Coast-style offense.

2. Branden Albert, LT, Kansas City Chiefs

Why: The Dolphins had a chance to land Albert from the Chiefs last season. Kansas City drafted rookie offensive tackle Eric Fisher with its top pick and was looking to ship Albert for a solid draft pick. However, former Miami general manager Jeff Ireland was unwilling. It was a decision that proved costly. The Dolphins set a team record for quarterback sacks allowed (58) while Albert went to another Pro Bowl. Miami's next general manager has a shot to bring Albert to Miami, but it won't come cheap in free agency.

3. Michael Oher, RT, Baltimore Ravens

Why: The Dolphins don't need just one offensive tackle. They need two. Both Tyson Clabo andBryant McKinnie are unrestricted free agents, leaving major holes on the offensive line. A pairing of Albert and Oher would be a nice upgrade. Oher also is a close friend and college teammate of Dolphins No. 1 receiver Mike Wallace, who may do some friendly recruiting before March.

4. Jairus Byrd, S, Buffalo Bills

Why: Miami starting safety Chris Clemons is an unrestricted free agent who may not return. The Dolphins could use an upgrade at the position such as Byrd. He is a playmaker who can better pair with Reshad Jones. Byrd has made a lot of big plays against the Dolphins, and that probably doesn't go unnoticed with Miami's coaches.

5. Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars

Why: Jones-Drew, 28, has some mileage and wear and tear. However, he rushed for 803 yards on an awful Jaguars team in 2013. The downside if Jones-Drew averaged 3.4 yards per carry last season. But Jones-Drew may still be capable of putting up numbers in the right situation. If Miami is interested, it might consider a short-term contract for Jones-Drew, who is approaching the age when running backs usually hit a wall.

I'd be happy with Albert and Byrd, puke on the rest of them. WTH would you want to pay big money to RB FA's and a RT who isn't that good. Get those in the draft.

i've liked ben tate for a while now. he still has fresh legs running behind foster, and he's used to a zbs scheme. really depends on what's available in the draft.

If we had those guys on last seasons' team we'd of had 10 or 11 wins.

Albert and Byrd definitely but I'd try and sign MJD to a 1 year low money deal. Someone will pay Tate a lot of money and wind up disappointed in the return.

Branden Albert....yes.

MJD at a below market deal...yes

Bryd? Nah. Oher? No. Terrible. Tate...meh?

Walker could have tried harder.

I like Ben Tate but you better have quality depth behind him because he's going to miss time with injuries every year.

Id take all of them but MJD. Not sure about Tate being starter material, but hed be a nice 3rd down back and is definitelly an upgrade over DT.

Tate > Thomas,
Byrd > Clemons,
Albert > McKinnie
Oher > Clabo

Zero interest in MJD. He's past his time, IMO.

Its not a good sign when your only 28 and already past your prime.

We need to sign Toby Gerhart for Minny. Tate is to injury prone and Gerhart just turned 26.He's a beast!!!

Article should be titled, "Four guys only Jeff Ireland would be dumb enough to throw big money at, and also Branden Albert."

I love these threads this time of the year. Lets just sign every pro bowler out there, and then we can have undrafted free agents fill in for the 8-10 guys that'll go down because we can't afford depth. Anyway, that said, I'd like Fat Albert at left tackle, but no to the rest. Clemons is solid though not a stud, and you can resign him for about 25% of what Byrd will want. Just be glad Buffalo prob won't resign him. Oher is a good player who had a bad year, but he's not worth the 7 or 8 mil he'll get in FA due to his name. No thanks

No thanks to all of them.

1. Decent, but injury history and I'd rather a tougher runner.
2. That's one reason I'm happy Ireland's gone, so we might not go after that plug!
3. I'd rather bring back Clabo....that's how bad Oher's been the last couple years.
4. Great player, too pricey for a safety.
5. No thanks.

Ya there wouldn't be a salary cap either.
