Espn's Walker, 5 FA's the Dolphins should explore

miamis not gonna overpay jarius byrd...if anything i bet we offer clemons another one year low money $3 mil range deal and/or we go the draft...for a possible replacement

i think michael ohers a better football player than he showed this year...personally...but i bet he's looking even as a right tackle at the $6 mil or more range per year

Miami needs to overpay Byrd.

There D took off once he got healthy. I know there pass rush was sick, but Byrd is the leader of the secondary.

http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/68678/five-free-agents-dolphins-should-consider

1. Ben Tate, RB, Houston Texans

Why: Tate is the top projected running back in free agency who is entering his prime, and Miami's running game was ranked 26th last season. Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas proved in 2013 that neither was starting material. Miller is better with fewer carries as a change-of-pace back. Thomas is entering the final year of his contract and is mostly a bust as a former second-round pick. Tate is a running back who can carry the load in Bill Lazor's new West Coast-style offense.

2. Branden Albert, LT, Kansas City Chiefs

Why: The Dolphins had a chance to land Albert from the Chiefs last season. Kansas City drafted rookie offensive tackle Eric Fisher with its top pick and was looking to ship Albert for a solid draft pick. However, former Miami general manager Jeff Ireland was unwilling. It was a decision that proved costly. The Dolphins set a team record for quarterback sacks allowed (58) while Albert went to another Pro Bowl. Miami's next general manager has a shot to bring Albert to Miami, but it won't come cheap in free agency.

3. Michael Oher, RT, Baltimore Ravens

Why: The Dolphins don't need just one offensive tackle. They need two. Both Tyson Clabo andBryant McKinnie are unrestricted free agents, leaving major holes on the offensive line. A pairing of Albert and Oher would be a nice upgrade. Oher also is a close friend and college teammate of Dolphins No. 1 receiver Mike Wallace, who may do some friendly recruiting before March.

4. Jairus Byrd, S, Buffalo Bills

Why: Miami starting safety Chris Clemons is an unrestricted free agent who may not return. The Dolphins could use an upgrade at the position such as Byrd. He is a playmaker who can better pair with Reshad Jones. Byrd has made a lot of big plays against the Dolphins, and that probably doesn't go unnoticed with Miami's coaches.

5. Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars

Why: Jones-Drew, 28, has some mileage and wear and tear. However, he rushed for 803 yards on an awful Jaguars team in 2013. The downside if Jones-Drew averaged 3.4 yards per carry last season. But Jones-Drew may still be capable of putting up numbers in the right situation. If Miami is interested, it might consider a short-term contract for Jones-Drew, who is approaching the age when running backs usually hit a wall.

LMAO, that's comical. At least half of the posters here can do better without trying. Walker knows nothing of the Dolphins, and my cat can likely do better if she learns how to type. :)

miamis scheme puts a lot of pressure on the safeties cause the lbs are used so much as blitzers etc byrds coverage responsibilities in our scheme would be exposed...buffalo does a good job of hiding his weaknesses in coverage

at least that's how i see it...

i would rather just go to the draft for some competition

Agree. I would go with two Byrds in the bush over one Byrd in the hand for a bunch of money.

Spot on. I hope Coyle can make some adjustments and mask some of our guys deficiencies, because he didn't show me he could last year.

I'd take Byrd over any S in this draft. There are no Earl Thomas's.

Byrd was hid too, but besides a couple S, none can cover all that well. Byrd is a legit FS, who has range and great speed..

Don't care what PFF says in their grades, just watch some Ravens games on NFL Rewind or whatever. Oher was not good. In fact, he blew.

I'd rather try to bring back Tyson Clabo on a one year deal as cheap as we can swing it, and I think we'd be nuts to bring back Tyson Clabo.

As for Byrd, Chris Clemons has played pretty well. He won't command nearly the kind of money Byrd wants. Why not resign Clemons to a reasonable contract and do right by one of our own guys, instead of shelling out a boatload of cash for somebody else's player who might not even be a good fit for our system?

I was just going to mention this. Clabo already in system and could be cheap one year deal again. Just make sure you draft your future. If Lewan were to fall to us (its way too early) or someone of his stature, you take them and roll with it. You can also just get a solid T later in mid rounds if you get Albert. You cover the position well and have depth with rookie working way in.

Why would you say no to Byrd. He is one of the best safeties in the league. He is a ball hawk. This team needs to create more turnover and he is good for 5-8 picks a year. No offense but if you're going to say no to a stud like Byrd would you care to elaborate? Not to mention it would be a huge blow to nab him away from an up an coming division rival. The Bills franchise is loaded with talent, not to mention it's young talent. Only a matter of time before they turn things around. If they could get their hands on a good QB (or if Manuel turns into an average QB) they will be an instant playoff contender. I would love to steal Jarius Byrd from them.

Great player, but he will cost a truckload of money. I'd rather invest in linemen.

it doesn't matter if you have earl thomas back there if it's with this current lb core...and it also won't matter if this oline doesn't get fixed...those must be the priorities over everything else...

they will make or break our 2014 season...oline is a absolute must if you want to score enough to mask these lb deficiencies and keep them from beating you...

Albert and Byrd okay. Tate will never be anything special. I like MJD but he is a risk, maybe is the contract was right but I'm sure he expects elite back money. I'm for getting offensive linemen through free agency, but they have to be good and not just a warm body, not sure Michael Oher is more than that (and abit famous for being the subject of a movie).
