explain to me why you would want anyone to coach this team over Bill cowher?

Cowher will never coach here. Gruden on the other hand, maybe. However he'd go back to Oakland first and foremost.

this is what this post is for...I already did lovie

Some people have said Lovie smith so Lets look at Lovie Smith
He has been a head coach for the last 9 years
His teams have gone to the playoffs 3 times
Those 3 playoff appearences were because they won the division (no wild card)
His teams have won 3 playoff games (no superbowl win)
His total record is 81-63 56%

and no thank you to bill obrien...as a UCF fan i say no to any coach who has access to big ten recruiting and loses to UCF...you should win on the talent difference alone...

When it comes to head coaching the number thing is not so important in my eyes. It is more how the team performs. Lovie always had a competative team but he never really was able to get a QB. When he got one the team had 10 wins and did not make the playoffs. They fired the guy. His defenses always solid. His offense never to explosive. I think Lovie is a damn good coach.... I am just bias as I just never seemed to like his teams.

I like obrien simply because he was creative with NE. He made things work at Penn State even with the issue surrounding the program and he was the 1st coach to leave NE and have success....LOL

This is just my list of coaches with HC experience.

theres Sumlin who many teams will want. I am completely against a college guy. Then there is Jay Gruden.

Obrien makes my top 3 because to me he is best available.

Gruden came out again and said he dosent want to be considered for any of these jobs...now he either meant he dosent want the jobs available NOW...or he dosent want to coach again...he too has a nice job doing less work at ESPN

Because Cowher isn't coming here no matter what, if he ever comes back to coaching.

Explain to me at this point why he would ever want to come back to coaching. I don't see a situation why a Cowher or Gruden would leave their jobs to return to the coaching grind.

To put it another way. They are now celebrities, and make good money doing nothing.

Some times the good old boy can work out.Look at kc now that andy reid is there.

Which coaches avoided Miami that are coaching somewhere else now?

That's not the issue. The issue is that there was rumblings that Gruden and Cowher were both interested in coming back but concessions would have to be made. Not 100% of Gruden but I remember Cowher wanted more control of the GM things or maybe that was Fischer. Regardless, you have a once historic franchise in a big market and a billionaire owner. Any big name coach could have walked in and probably gotten the job especially after the Harbaugh buffoonery. It didn't happen. Makes you wonder why....

Lets look at the facts.

Bill Cowher was a coach for 15 years.
His team went to the playoffs 10 of he 15 years
His team won their division 8 of those 10 years
His team won 12 playoff games vs 9 losses
one of the years he was 2nd in the division he won the superbowl.
His total record was 149-90 62%

Lets look at jon gruden
He was a head coach for 11 years
His teams went to the playoffs 5 times
Each of those 5 playoff appearances was a 1st place in the division (no wild card)
His teams won 5 Playoff games and they did not win won after his superbowl
His total record was 95-81 54%

Some people have said Lovie smith so Lets look at Lovie Smith
He has been a head coach for the last 9 years
His teams have gone to the playoffs 3 times
Those 3 playoff appearences were because they won the division (no wild card)

I know who I want, but anyone else want to play this game???

was a good coach when he was relevant. Cowher has been out of football for to long. His coaches, schemes, etc are out dated and/or are working elsewhere. Plus don't forget he is making more money as a TV host then he would as a Head Coach. Who in their right mind would want to leave that cushy job for 16 hr NFL days and lots of nights away from home. We won't see any of those guys as coaches again. No Gruden, no Cowher, no Marino, no Dungy, etc

By the sounds of it, Ross and Ireland are not real popular people in NFL Circles. I highly doubt Cowher would come here when Ross is the owner. He sure as hell would NOT come here if Ireland remained the GM. Ireland's name is mud in NFL circles

The bottom line is Cowher and Gruden will never coach here. They will stay in the media. This franchise is a crap pie in the face for high profile coaches with this owner.
All those stats are just mental masturbation.

Cowher did it against a consistently weak division. He ran the ball well and had good defenses, no secret formula there. Ball controll worked back then....He was a good coach, but not really as good as he looked on the surface.

BACK THEN ?? The two most physical teams in the league last year met in the superbowl. There is more than one way to win these days I will agree, but don't act like physical football teams are no longer in the running. It comes down to execution but run first teams can still win it all.

Bottom line is we have to move on this. If we are getting rid of Philbin it needs to happen TODAY!!! The longer we wait the further back in the line we end up. If we let go of Ireland AND Philbin we are stuck in a bad place. We have to find a GM before the new GM can find a HC. That means the best options will be long gone.

Personally at this point I think we are stuck with what we have. Can't really wait this long and try to make it all work out. If Ireland was going to be fired I think it would have had to already happen. I just don't see how you can search for a GM for the next two or three weeks and THEN try to find a HC when everyone else will have already found theirs. I don't really want to go another year with what we have, but I think we should have already moved on this if we were going to. Not good either way IMO.

Cowher is okay but I hope we find someone who is more creative offensively, that seems to be where the winning teams trend now. Cowher was more a defense guy, pretty bland offensively. The media loves him though so if he were the Dolphins HC they would quickly become a media darling.

That being said I still suspect we will just change the DC and OC and not head Coach. If however it gets drawn out as if waiting for the results of the Martin/Incog issue, I say that starts to look bad for Philbin.
