FA Center Kyle Cook

To summarize, Cook is better overall, much better on the run, better on the pass if we exclude the Dolphins game, cheap, and played well vs our division opponents who we play two of to start the season.

Anyone else see something different?

What is your solution?

Anything but repeating history. I laughed at those thinking that replacing Pouncey was no big deal. I laugh at assertions that a 7th rd rookie was the eventual replacement.

Bring in a viable center and lock up Pouncey long term, doing otherwise....is insanity.

I agree with you about how absurd people sounded that replacing Pouncey was going to be easy. I agree that a UDFA was never going to be a solution.

However, my biggest critique of you is when you say "bring in a viable center". There are barely any candidates that fit that bill. Samson Satele might be the best "viable" center out there. Kyle Cook? Fine. Got an idea for a trade? Maybe.

However, I think it is a bit lame to say "bring in a viable center" as if the pickings are overflowing with capable pivots.

For those interested in Cook he has started like 66 out of 73 games.

Satele had like 98 out of 102 games started.

Two of the years looks like cook might have had some injuries on a couple of years!

Only thing i saw different was number of games started in which Satele has started more!
Personally other thsn that its hard to tell how. Much better one is over the other!

Strangely enough, Cooks worst game was vs the Dolphins when he gave up 2 sacks and 3 hurries. If you throw out that game, he would have been above average in pass blocking.

so you're saying Centers have a tough time against our D-Line

All I know is if we roll with the in house options and they blow in the first 2 weeks of the season and only then we go and sign a Cook or Satele that will tell me all I need to know about Dennis Hickey. Hopefully these guys no soon whether or not someone here can handle it and make a move. We don't want another Bryant McKinnie desperation trade when everyone supposedly knew we had an emotionally unstable and ****ty LT last year. Give Garner a little time, if he can't do it bring one of the guys in to compete sooner rather than later.

Another possibility is Pouncey is closer than we think. Hearing him practicing kick slides today was hopefully encouraging news. I remember we were getting rag dolled at RG last year and when John Jerry came back it was a little better. It was laughable that this site didn't see Jerry just getting his job handed back to him when nobody else on the roster could hold up at RG at all.

Cook was un UFA and should not have started the same but, did have injury issues two years ago.

I believe there's some hope there for Pouncey returning earlier than some projections. From what some folks said when they researched this injury/surgery/recovery timeline, he's in the 3rd phase of the 4 phase recovery process with what he's been doing.

Would love to have him back before the bye, or earlier if at all possible.

Scroll up, I said sign Cook if anything. But going backwards because of need does nothing. While MIA is at it why not bring back Clam Cowder? Lame huh. Gimme a break. All my posts in this thread can be read and understood by the weakest minds. Lame...what ajoke.

Let me see the first preseason game then if it still is an issuesign me up. I don't forsee this being an issue for long

Those who wait usually screw themselves in the end! Kind of like last year Ireland hesitated and screwed the line by going for a bandaid!

Disagree, both are quality receivers, and can easily compete on many NFL teams. As for team waiting for them to be cut, unless Gibson is hurt (which means he would not be traded or picked up when released), both those guys will probably make the team.

Either one of those two quality receivers that can start on a few teams, for a backup center that can start sounds about right to me.

LOL...if you think rishard matthews is a starting NFL WR! Now that's funny!

It could go either way. We have a new GM, OC, OL Coach and Asst OL Coach. Can't really compare this situation to last year's...last year's was far worse IMHO. Aside from bad snaps (which I'm not discounting), reports of the O line's performance have been steadily getting better, even the RBs have been showing better as camp progresses. I haven't lost faith in this management team yet.

It's not like they want to screw themselves, intentionally.
