Feeley To Start Bears Game

What I WILL argue is that AJ is a bust because of one season yet Gus is this great qb that is gonna thrive with age like Gannon. For one thing, Gannon never sucked as bad as Gus has looked at diff times in his career. Gus had 4 appearences in relief that he looked good. That doesnt discount his years where he lost jobs to the likes of Akili Smith, Ty Detmer and others. I will support Gus if he is the guy, but to bash AJ and sing Gus' praise is ridiculous. And yes, Harrington became teh starter after AJ had his elbow injury.

Rickeyrunsover no doubt AJ's upside is significant.
I don't get the AJ haters, this kid show alot of heart last year and had some good moments too.
People forget how bad the O was in 04 and never mind the D, I think we were ranked 30th against the run, it was like the Dan years and AJ isn't Dan.
I can't beleive we being so harsh when this kid didn't have a chance to show what he's got.

I'm fine with feely starting. I'll be concentrating on the line though.

more than likely, AJ will get a few drives, Gus will finish out the first quarter, then Sage will play 2 quarters, and Berlin will get the last

I thought Saban has already stated that he was going to flip flop the pre-season? Starting AJ, then Gus, Then Aj, then Gus, etc?

For the first two games. After that I'm not sure what he's going to do.

If I were running the Phins I would start Ferrotte due to his overall greater experience (especially in Linehan's offense). I just don't think A.J. is going to pan out. Part of this idea comes from the fact that he couldn't beat out Joey Harrington at Oregon, Harrington has been unimpressive thus far in his career. Tedford's systems help QB's dramatically at the college level as well. Why couldn't Feeley beat him out?

Ultimately, I think the Phins will have to draft or sign another QB. They should of traded for Brunell or waited on the Feeley trade so they could have picked up Kerry Collins. Collins' big arm in Linehan's pass happy offense would have been scary looking after the offense adjusted. I thought that the Phins should have traded down and gotten Jason Campbell or Rodgers. J.J. Arrington would have been availible and heck you could have always traded for Travis Henry. (-:

Thanks, its nice to see a Bills fan actualy talk football on this board. Although Feeley did beat out Harrington at Oregon; when Feeley got hurt Harrington took over and Feeley never really got a second chance

I was hoping Gus would start this game and give feeley another week to learn the system before being thrown into a game situation against the other teams starters.

But in the end it doesn't matter. Both QBs' will play alot in the next two games...

:yeahthat: Harrington played so well, Feeley never was given his second chance.

Although I agree with you that what you've said will probably happen, I've never liked that philosophy. If you can't decide between QB's, don't give them only a quarter to play combined. At minimum, they should each get an entire quarter, or a quarter's worth of drives. Sage getting half the game doesn't make sense... he's not going to start, and we know what he can do. Berlin playing that much is a huge waste, too.

I know Saban probably wants to limit the starters' time to keep them healthy, but hey, if one gets hurt, it makes the decision that much easier!

imo saban is giving feeley enough rope to hang himself.

Does this really matter? Aj is starting the 1st preseason game is about as significant as Gus starting the 2nd preseason game. I doubt the starting Qb for the regular season won't be named for till atleast after the 3rd preseason game. I hope both Qb's get snaps in both games with the starting offense, so if Saban is basing his pick on stats, I don't want to see either Qb win the job because he played with/against backup competition. Hopefully one of the Qb's plays so well that it becomes clear who the starter is.

Harrington was playing well, but the OC (Tedford) wanted to put AJ into the games several times that year when Joey was struggling but was overruled by the head coach.

I guess it would have been a little bad for the mystique that was being built around Joey to have the veteran come in to give the younger player time to settle down (a problem Joey has had since he started playing ball...and still has). :shakeno:

Feeley impressed me last year with his toughness and not just because he was getting killed every snap but his resiliency was good when I saw his finger on his right hand dislocate and a coach straightens it back and the next play he throws about a 25 yd. TD. That impressed me. Now with some good coaching, better blocking, a running game, and better receiving AJ should develop. Peyton Manning would have had more INTs than TDs if he was the QB of our offense last year. Well I may not go THAT far...But he sure as hell wouldn't have had 49 TDs.
